Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Jeff Duda blanked the Tornadoes for the second time this season, notching six zeroes in a 9-1 Quebec Capitales victory over the Worcester Tornadoes on Friday night.
Duda struck out six batters, walked one, and allowed six hits in his 14th victory of 2012. His win earned him a tie in the franchise record books for wins in a season.
The Capitales scored in the second on a Josh Garton sacrifice fly and never looked back, adding a pair of runs in the third on consecutive singles by Josue Peley and Steve Brown.
The big blow to the home team was the five-run sixth, with Quebec sending ten men to the plate. Rony Rodriguez both started and ended the frame, getting hit by a pitch and scoring, then grounding out to cap the rally. Garton tripled Rodriguez home, Josh Colafemina plated Garton later in the frame. Sebastien Boucher and Peley each added RBI hits in the inning that gave the visitors an 8-0 lead.
Jerod Edmondson had a three-hit game, as did Alex Nunez (who also stole a base and was caught stealing once).
The lone Tornadoes run came in the ninth off of Guillaume Duguay, who gave up hits to pinch hitter Jimmy Best and Alex Nunez. Best came home on a Cam Kneeland fielder's choice as one of three ground ball outs for Duguay.
Walker McKinven was issued the loss, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing seven runs (all earned). He struck one batter out, walked two, and gave up 11 hits. His only 1-2-3 frame was the first.
Mike Mullen tossed 2.1 innings out of the pen, allowing one earned run on a walk and a pair of hits.
Bryan Leigh pitched the ninth inning, giving up one run on a hit and three walks.
The middle game of the series is Saturday at 7:05pm, with the gates opening at 6:00. Pre-game coverage begins on USTREAM.tv at 6:50.
