
Morales, Matzek Promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves made the following moves on Tuesday and Wednesday, which affected the Mississippi Braves roster. INF C.J. Alexander was placed on the 7-day Injured List, OF Connor Lien and LHP Jordan Harrison have been reinstated from the 7-Day Injured List, LHP Tyler Matzek and C Jonathan Morales were promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett. The M-Braves current roster stands at 24 active players.
Alexander, 23, the Cape Coral, Florida native was placed on the 7-Day Injured List on August 20 citing a thumb sprain from the game on August 18.
The State College of Florida product has split the season between Double-A Mississippi and High-A Florida after being reinstated from the 7-Day Injured List on July 5. Alexander had a two-home run game against Jacksonville on August 8 where he went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
The Atlanta Braves drafted CJ Alexander in the 20th round of the 2018 draft out of the State College of Florida.
Lien, 25, has been reactivated after being placed on the 7-Day Injured List on August 13. Lien has split the 2019 season between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi. For Mississippi this season, the Orlando, Florida native has played in 45 games hitting .191 with 15 runs, six doubles, two triples, six home runs, 14 RBI, 15 walks, four stolen bases, and an on-base percentage of .276.
The Atlanta Braves drafted Connor Lien in the 12th round of the 2012 draft out of Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida.
Harrison, 28, has been reactivated activated after being placed on the 7-Day Injured List on August 14. Harrison has split the season between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi.
At Mississippi, the Louisiana Lafayette product has pitched in 32 games for a record of 2-3 with two saves and an ERA of 3.27 (15 ER/41.1 IP). Opposing batters are hitting .228 against Harrison who has 41 strikeouts, 15 walks, and a WHIP of 1.19.
Harrison was drafted in the 25th round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette by the Tampa Bay Rays. In November 2018 Harrison elected free agency and was signed by the Atlanta Braves in February 2019 to a minor league contract.
Matzek, 28, the former Colorado Rockies starting pitcher, made an appearance against Birmingham on August 17 where he pitched 2.1 perfect innings with five strikeouts.
The Mission Viejo, California native made his MLB debut in 2014 where he made 20 appearances and 19 starts for the Rockies during the 2014 season with a record of 6-11 with a 4.05 ERA (53 ER/117.2 IP) where he struck out 91 while walking 44 batters. Matzek pitched for the Rockies again in the 2015 season where he made five starts with a record of 2-1 with a 4.09 ERA (10 ER/22.0 IP).
Matzek was drafted in the 1st round (11th overall pick) by the Colorado Rockies in the 2009 draft out of Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, California. The Arizona Diamondbacks signed Matzek as a free agent to a minor league contract in January 2019 and was released from the organization in May 2019. The Atlanta Braves signed Matzek in August 2019 to a minor league contract.
Morales, 24, the Arroyo, Puerto Rico native has split the season between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi. In his most recent stint with the Mississippi Braves, Morales has hit .179 across nine games with one run, five hits, two doubles, two RBI, three walks, and an on-base percentage of .250.
For Gwinnett, Morales has played in 28 games and has hit .272 with 15 runs, 28 hits, five doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, 10 walks, and an on-base percentage of .333.
The Atlanta Braves drafted Morales in the 25th round of the 2015 draft out of Miami Dade Community College.
The 11-game homestand concludes on Thursday night at Trustmark Park. RHP Claudio Custodio (4-4, 2.38) makes the start for Mississippi against Pensacola RHP Adam Bray (3-3, 2.54). First pitch is set for 6:35 pm with coverage beginning at 6:20 pm on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App. and MiLB.tv (subscription required).
