Monterey Bay FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Monterey Bay F.C. (1-6-0, 3 points) fell 6-0 to San Antonio FC at Toyota Field in its seventh and final away match of the early-season road swing. With Week 8 of the USL Championship regular season in the books, the Union now turns its attention to May 7 at Cardinale Stadium.
Monterey Bay F.C. entered the match down all three of its rostered center backs amongst a list of seven total inactives, forcing midfielder Mobi Fehr into the center of the backline for the visitors. Despite a shorthanded roster, Monterey Bay's Simon Dawkins gave an early spark of life to the side as the midfielder created several chances in the first few stages of the match. In the 10th minute, Dawkins' attempted cross into the box veered onto frame, forcing the San Antonio FC goalkeeper into a fingertip save to push the ball over the crossbar and out for a corner. Two minutes later, Dawkins gained possession and weaved through three defenders on his way inside the box, but his shot ricocheted off the inside of the near post and back into the field of play to keep Monterey Bay F.C. off the scoresheet.
In the 21st minute, San Antonio FC took hold of the match and scored the opening goal. Elliot Collier scored with a left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner of the net to bring the match to 1-0. Four minutes later, the home side doubled its lead on a breakaway goal from PC. Adding a third goal before halftime, San Antonio FC's Dominick Hernandez buried a shot into the bottom-right corner and the sides entered the halftime break with the score 3-0.
Despite Monterey Bay F.C. continuing to fight down three goals in the second half, the home side managed to continue its success in the final 25 minutes. With a headed score in the 76th minute by Mitchell Taintor, a goal seven minutes later by Justin Dhillon, and a final goal of the night by Jordan Ayimbila in the second minute of added time, San Antonio FC topped a depleted Monterey Bay squad by a final score of 6-0.
