Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (3-5-0) fell to Orange County SC (2-3-2) at H-E-B Park on Saturday, April 30. Erick Torres scored a brace in the contest to lift Orange County in Edinburg.
Orange County struck quickly, at the third minute Erick "Cubo" Torres found a ball floating inside the box and headered it into the bottom left corner of the net past a diving Tyler Deric, 0-1.
RGV FC recovered rapidly at the fifth minute off the foot of Ricky Ruiz, who received a short tap pass from Frank Lopez inside the box. Lopez created the chance as he took on the goalkeeper, Patrick Rakovsky, and passed the ball to the center of the goal to a closing Ruiz, who sent a direct shot at goal, scoring his first goal with RGV FC, 1-1.
At the 38th minute, Erick Torres scored a brace, once again heading the ball into the net. The go-ahead goal came off a set piece play from the left end of the field, 1-2. This proved to be the dagger and game winner on the night for the visiting team.
Dylan Borczak struck a powerful direct shot to the bottom right of the goal, but Rakovsky was correctly placed to block the shot and end the threat at equalizing for RGV in the 80th minute. Rio Grande closed out the match with four shots on target out of 16 attempts.
RGV FC will hit the road for the first of three consecutive road matches. Next up is Colorado Springs Switchbacks on May 5th. To see more matchday information, visit www.rgvfc.com.
