CLEVELAND - The AHL's Cleveland Monsters defeated the Hershey Bears in front of 10,894 fans on Sunday at The Q by a final score of 4-1. With the win, the Monsters' third consecutive victory, Cleveland is now 33-26-7-1 overall this season and with 74 points currently occupies fourth place in the AHL's North Division standings, in position for the division's final playoff spot with nine games remaining in the regular season.

After a scoreless opening period, Tommy Cross provided Cleveland with a 1-0 lead at 3:48 of the middle frame courtesy of extra-man helpers from Kole Sherwood and Nikita Korostelev. Then, Sam Vigneault netted a shorthanded marker at 16:45 on feeds from Ryan MacInnis and Garret Cockerill to give Cleveland a 2-0 edge through 40 minutes of play.

In the third, Maximilian Kammerer drew the Bears within one at 2:50 of the period, but Cleveland sealed a 4-1 win with an unassisted even-strength breakaway score from Alexandre Texier at 10:10 and a Zac Dalpe empty-netter at 18:40, made possible by Mark Letestu's lone assist.

Monsters goaltender Brad Thiessen improved to 8-5-2 this season following a single-game season-high 38-save performance, while Hershey's Vitek Vanacek fell to 17-10-5 in net this year despite a 29-save showing.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday home tilt vs. the Lehigh Valley Phantoms with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1, AHLTV and the Monsters Hockey Network.
