Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - In the first of eight head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters held on for a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Wolves at The Q on Friday. With the win, the Monsters improved to 14-6-1-2 overall this season and with a .674 points percentage, are currently tied with the Milwaukee Admirals for 2nd place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
In his first game in a Monsters uniform in nearly a month, recent Columbus Blue Jackets assignee Kerby Rychel staked the Monsters to a 1-0 lead just 37 seconds into the game on a crisp transition play from Alex Broadhurst and Josh Anderson. Then, just over six minutes later, Daniel Zaar made it 2-0 Lake Erie when he rifled home his sixth of the season on feeds from T.J. Tynan and John Ramage.
In the middle frame, Anderson extended the Monsters advantage to 3-0 when he buried a drop pass from Dean Kukan at 7:01 with Lake Erie goaltender Anton Forsberg collecting a secondary assist on the play. Chicago hung around down the stretch, creeping within a goal after back-to-back scores from Eriah Hayes at 12:14 of the second and Danny Kristo at 16:57 of the third, before Anderson tipped home his second marker of the game at 18:45 of the final frame with Michael Paliotta and Tynan combining to set up the Monsters' fourth goal. A late Jeremy Welsh tally at 19:43 capped the Wolves' scoring and established Lake Erie's final margin of victory at 4-3.
Forsberg's 32 Saturday saves helped push the 22 year-old Swede's record to 9-2-1 in net for the Monsters this season, while Jordan Binnington made 26 saves in defeat for Chicago.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Saturday rematch vs. the Wolves with full coverage underway from The Q at 7:30 pm on 99X and simulcast on SportsTime Ohio.
