Binghamton Senators News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The Binghamton Senators fell 4-3 to the Springfield Falcons in the MassMutual Center during their final meeting of the 2015-16 season.
Springfield opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period after Michael Bunting sent a wrist shot past Andrew Hammond, who is currently with the B-Sens on a conditioning stint, for his second goal of the year just before the 10 minute mark. The Binghamton Senators went to the locker room trailing their host 1-0 and 7-11 in shots.
Binghamton came out hot in the second period scoring two goals 1 minute and 47 seconds apart. The first goal came from Kyle Flanagan to mark his first goal in a B-Sens uniform with assists from Mark Fraser and Patrick Mullen. Zack Stortini scored his fourth goal of the year after completing Travis Ewanyk's wrap around attempt beating Falcons' goaltender Nicklas Treutle and pushing the score to 2-1. Springfield evened up the game with 33 seconds remaining after Matthias Plachta put a rebounded puck past Hammond. The teams went to the final intermission tied 2-2 with Binghamton outshooting Springfield 13-7.
The back and forth game continued into the third period with the teams exchanging goals in the first six minutes before Springfield pulled ahead for the win. Max McCormick scored his sixth mark of the year after a tic-tac-toe sequence from Matt Puempel and Mullen. Lucas Lessio evened the score less than a minute later before Dustin Jeffrey put home the game winning goal at the 7:01 mark to push the final score to 4-3.
Hammond finished with 26 saves in the losing effort while Treutle stopped 29 shots to claim the win.
