Falcons Force Way to a Victory on Star Wars Night

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons overcame two deficits to win by a score of 4-3 on Friday night against the Binghamton Senators at the MassMutual Center.

It took 9:16 for a goal to be scored with Michael Bunting tallying the opening goal. Dan O' Donoghue won a faceoff to the forward who scored his second of the year with a wrist shot past Andrew Hammond. The Falcons concluded the first period with a 1-0 lead and outshot the Senators 11-7.

The Senators tied the game at 7:43 in the second period with a goal from Kyle Flanagan. Mark Fraser fired a shot off the end boards that went to Flanagan at the goal line. He fired home his first of the season that was also assisted by Patrick Mullen. Zach Stortini gave the Senators a 2-1 lead just 1:47 later with Travis Ewanyk assisting on the goal. With 33 seconds left in the second period, Matthias Plachta tied the game at a 2-2 score with a power play goal. Greg Carey made a cross-ice pass to Plachta on the backdoor of the net for his second of the season. Alex Grant also assisted on the goal to bring the game to a tie at the end of two frames.

Max McCormick gave the Senators a lead once again by scoring 4:45 into the third period with his sixth of the season assisted by Matt Pumpel and Mullen. Lucas Lessio tied the game 42 seconds later with his seventh of the season. Lessio chased down a loose puck in the Senators zone that drew Hammond out of the net. Lessio skated around Hammond to pot the goal and tie the game at a 3-3 score. At 7:01 Dustin Jeffrey scored the final goal of the night with a bullet past Hammond that hit crossbar and went in. Jon DiSalvatore, playing in his 800th career AHL game, assisted on the goal with Carey. Nicklas Treutle improved to 5-4-0 with 29 saves. Hammond made 24 saves in the loss.

The Falcons continue the weekend with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center. The Birds return home to the MassMutual Center next Friday and Saturday for games beginning at 7 p.m.
