March 7, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - The AHL's Cleveland Monsters defeated the Belleville Senators on Thursday at The Q by a final score of 2-1. With the win, the Monsters are now 28-25-6-1 overall this season and with 63 points, remain alone in sixth place in the AHL's North Division standings.
Belleville's Nick Paul staked the Senators to a 1-0 lead just 1:38 into the first period on Thursday with an even-strength finish, but Cleveland's Sam Vigneault leveled things at one apiece with a power-play score at 15:54 on feeds from Kevin Stenlund and Tommy Cross. Then, at 18:21 of the first, Nikita Korostelev pulled the Monsters in front for the first time with a five-on-five marker set up by Dillon Simpson.
After the final two periods slid by scoreless, the Monsters emerged victorious by a 2-1 final score, ending Belleville's league-wide season-long point streak at 17 games.
Cleveland goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced to improve to 19-17-5 this season while Belleville's Marcus Hogberg fell to 14-5-5 in net this year by virtue of a 28-save performance.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday rematch vs. the Senators with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1, AHLTV and the Monsters Hockey Network.
