Monsters Fall in Hamilton 6-2

Hamilton scored four unanswered third period goals en route to handing the Lake Erie Monsters (12-10-0-1) a 6-2 loss Sunday at Copps Coliseum. Bryan Lerg scored his team-leading 11th goal for the Monsters in the loss. Markus Lauridsen also added a goal for the Monsters, who are back in action Wednesday night in Rochester.

On the power play, Hamilton (12-10-0-3) struck first when Gabriel Dumont picked up a bouncing puck and sent a low shot past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard. The goal gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead at 14:20 of the first period; a lead Hamilton would take into the first intermission.

Nick Tarnasky gave Hamilton a 2-0 lead when he found a loose puck in front of the Monsters net and drove it over the goal line at 5:06 of the second period.

The Monsters countered with a power play goal of their own, cutting the Hamilton lead to 2-1, when Bryan Lerg tipped a Matt Hunwick point shot past Bulldogs goalie Robert Mayer at 14:31 of the second period. Brett Clark also assisted on the goal in his Monsters debut.

Hamilton got four unanswered goals in 15:21 to start the third period. Patrick Holland, Stefan Fournier, Dumont, and Louis Leblanc scored to give the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead before Markus Lauridsen scored in the final minute for the Monsters; his second goal of the season, to cut the deficit to 6-2. Andrew Agozzino assisted on Lauridsen's goal with 44 seconds left.

Calvin Pickard stopped 22 of 28 shots for the Monsters; his record is now 7-7-1 in net. Robert Mayer stopped 29 of 30 Monsters shots; he is 3-5-2 on the season for Hamilton.

The Monsters visit the Rochester Americans Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, and the game can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.

NOTES: The Monsters are 7-4-0-1 over their last 12 games... The Monsters are 3-3-0-0 on their current stretch of 11 straight games against North Division opponents... The Monsters are now 3-2-0-1 against Hamilton this season, and 8-5-0-1 against the North Division... The Monsters are 4-5-0-0 on the road this season... Paul Carey's point streak snaps at three games... New Monsters defenseman Brett Clark, who had an assist in his debut with the Monsters, brings 689 games of National Hockey League experience to the team...
