Barons Drop Shootout 5-4

The Chicago Wolves ' Ty Rattie poked in a loose puck from a scramble in the crease with 17.6 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and eventually a shootout in the Wolves' 5-4 win over the Oklahoma City Barons on Sunday at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

Rattie scored two tying goals in the third period and added another in the shootout as the Barons and Wolves conclude their four-game season series with two wins apiece. Oklahoma City is 0-4 in shootouts and falls to 10-12-0-4. Chicago improves to 11-10-0-2 and 1-2 in the tiebreaker.

Oklahoma City failed to hold a 3-2 lead in the third period and have surrendered a one-goal advantage in all four of their shootout losses this season.

Linus Omark scored two goals for the Barons, while Brad Hunt added three assists and Ryan Hamilton chipped in a goal and two assists in a game the Barons led 1-0 and 3-2 at various stages and also trailed 2-1.

Omark tallied both of Oklahoma City's goals in a wild first period that saw each team fire 14 shots on the opposition net.

Omark opened the scoring on a blast from near the point at 8:16 on the power play from Brad Hunt and Roman Horak. Chicago scored a pair of unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead, as Sergey Andronov wristed one past Ty Rimmer's glove side at11:55. Chris Porter followed with a goal from the doorstep off a setup from Corey Locke at 13:39.

Omark knotted the score 2-2 at 19:18 of the opening period as he shoveled home a loose puck from the edge of the crease on assists from Ryan Hamilton and Martin Gernat.

Horak had the only goal of the second period, one-timing a rebound past Matt Climie at 12:10. Hunt, who as a plus-4 on Saturday, set it up with a shot from the point on the power play, while Omark had the second assist.

Omark is third in the AHL in goals with 14 and fourth in points with 28.

Rattie tied the game 3-3 on a tip in front at 13:20 of the third. Oklahoma City countered with a nifty rush by Ryan Hamilton at 15:53 to give the Barons a 4-3 edge.

With Climie pulled for an extra attacker, Rattie scored the tying goal from a scramble at 19:42.

In the shootout, Rattie, Shane Harper and Dmitrij Jaskin scored for Chicago while Derek Nesbitt, Roman Horak and Brad Hunt were stopped. Ty Rimmer took the shootout loss to fall to 1-0-1, stopping 34 of 38 shots. Climie, 2-4-0 made 23 saves.

The Barons' six-game trip continues with a 7 pm (CST) game at Milwaukee on Thursday.
