Falcons Stay Perfect Versus Wolf Pack, Win 4-2

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (16-4-1-1) defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack by the final score of 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the XL Center in Hartford, improving the team's record to 5-0-0-0 in matchups between the two Northeast Division rivals this season.
Jonathan Marchessault scored his fifth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner at 3:25 of the third period, streaking down the left wing and firing a wrist shot past Hartford netminder Jason Missiaen. The Quebec City native became the first Falcon with multiple game-winning goals this season, as 11 players entered Sunday's game with a team-leading one.
As it did Saturday night versus Hartford, Springfield jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the opening frame. Darryl Boyce gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead at 9:25, beating Missiaen with a back-handed wrister after a Wolf Pack turnover in its own zone. Sean Collins made it a 2-0 game at 17:32, receiving a leading feed from Cody Goloubef and backhanding the puck into the back of the net.
Alex Aleardi scored the Falcons fourth goal, an insurance tally at 6:10 of the third period. For Aleardi, the goal was his third of the season and first since November 24 at Providence.
The Wolf Pack's goals were scored by Danny Syvret on the power play at 16:56 of the second period and Oscar Lindberg at 13:07 of the third period. Hartford never led in the contest.
Jeremy Smith improved to 10-3-1, making 33 saves on 35 shots in net for the Falcons. With the victory, the Dearborn, Michigan native became the sixth goaltender in the American Hockey League to reach double-digit wins this season.
Missiaen stopped 18 of 22 in a losing effort, falling to 2-8-1 this season.
Each team converted once on the power play. Springfield went 1-for-5 with the man advantage, while Hartford went 1-for-6.
With Sunday's win away from home, the Falcons snapped a two-game road losing streak and improved to 6-2-1-1 away from the MassMutual Center. Springfield has won nine of its last 11 games, dating back to November 10.
The Falcons are back in action Wednesday, December 11 when they hit the road to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The team plays its next five games on the road, returning to the MassMutual Center Thursday, December 26 to host the Adirondack Phantoms.
