Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs ended their seven-game winning-streak with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Worcester Sharks at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester on Sunday afternoon

Manchester (16-5-1-4) leads the Atlantic Division with 37 points. Worcester (10-8-1-1) sits in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 22 points

"(Grosenick) did a nice job in net," said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. "We had a gazillion chances to beat him, even before the overtime. Our power play, right now, we have too many guys trying to do too many things without shooting the puck. We'll address that. We had a big session this week and didn't seem to make any ground up there. When you get four out of five minutes in the overtime on the power play and you can't even get the puck on net, or you can't win a puck battle, that's what expect. Come out with one point instead of two."

Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube stopped two-of-four Sharks in the shootout as right wings Dan DaSilva and Daniil Tarasov were able put pucks past him. Sharks netminder Troy Grosenick stopped four out of five snipers with center Jordan Weal as the only Monarchs player to find the back of the net in the shootout.

The Monarchs were the first on the board at the 57-second mark of the middle frame. Right wing Sean Backman pushed the puck forward to right wing Zach O'Brien in front of the Sharks net. O'Brien spun around, throwing the puck at Grosenick. As O'Brien fell to the ice on his back, the puck slid by his outstretched pad of Grosenick and into the back of the net to give Manchester a 1-0 lead. The goal was O'Brien's third tally of the season and was also assisted by defenseman Derek Forbort.

Defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser notched his first mark of his professional career to tie the game at 1-1 at 5:47 of the third period. Abeltshauser was perched at the top of the slot where he was fed the puck from Tarasov. Abeltshauser wound up and sent a slap shot over Berube's glove shoulder for the tying goal. Center Bracken Kearns was also given an assist on the play, his 11th helper of the season.

Berube (7-4-2) took his second shootout loss of the season making 36 saves on 37 shots. Grosenick (5-2-0) earned his fifth win of the season stopping 31-of-32 shots.

The Monarchs went 0-for-3 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
