Cleveland Monsters News Release

The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals in overtime on Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena by a final score of 2-1. With the overtime loss, the Monsters improved to 5-8-1-1 overall this season and with a .400 points percentage, remain alone in eighth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

After the first period slid by scoreless, the Admirals grabbed a 1-0 lead at 10:32 of the middle frame when Kevin Fiala notched an even-strength marker, his second tally of the season. The Monsters responded at 16:15 of the frame, however, when Nick Moutrey finished off his own five-on-five feed thanks to a seeing-eye setup from Aaron Palushaj and Jordan Maletta.

A scoreless third period gave way to a three-on-three overtime frame that led ultimately to a goal for Milwaukee's Felix Girard at 2:16 that resulted in a 2-1 Admirals victory. Monsters goaltender Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves in his 2016-17 home debut, falling to 0-2-1 between the pipes for Cleveland while Milwaukee backstop Jusse Saros stopped 30 of the 31 Monsters shots he faced to improve to 8-1-0 in net for the Admirals this season.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Wednesday road clash vs. the Rockford IceHogs with full coverage, live from the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, IL, underway at 8:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
