CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League were defeated by the Toronto Marlies on Friday night at The Q by a final score of 6-5 in overtime. With the loss, the Monsters drop to 9-7-2-0 overall this season and with 20 points, remain alone in third place in the AHL's North Division standings.

Toronto got the scoring started, getting a pair of goals in the opening period from Carl Grundstrom and Andreas Borgman to give the Marlies an early 2-0 lead. The Monsters responded when Kevin Stenlund potted home an even-strength tally at 11:50 on feeds from Tommy Cross and Nathan Gerbe, trimming the Toronto lead to 2-1. The Marlies extended their lead to 3-1 just before intermission thanks to Grundstrom's second goal of the night.

In the middle frame, Paul Bittner helped Cleveland cut the Toronto lead to one, scoring an even-strength marker at 6:56 on set-ups from Zac Dalpe and Justin Wade. The Monsters pulled even moments later when Mark Letestu finished a short-handed saucer pass from Bittner at 14:28 of the period to tie the game, 3-3.

The Marlies jumped back in front early in the final period courtesy of goals from Mason Marchment and Pierre Engvail, giving Toronto a 5-3 edge. Cleveland answered quickly when Eric Robinson lit the lamp at 5:47 on a set-up from Dalpe. The Monsters tied the game late in the third on a power-play goal at 18:03 from Letestu, his second of the game, with assists from Adam Clendening and Sonny Milano to send the contest into overtime, 5-5.

In the extra frame, Marchment tallied his second goal of the night at 4:17 to secure a 6-5 win for Toronto.

Cleveland goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 42 of 48 shots to drop to 5-5-2 on the season, while Marlies netminder Eamon McAdam stopped 32 of the 37 pucks he faced, to improve to 3-0-2 on the year.
