ATLANTIC DIVISION STANDINGS

Last Time Out:

The Hershey Bears return to the ice following a 5-2 defeat to the Cleveland Monsters last Saturday night at Giant Center. The loss ended a three-game home ice winning streak and split a weekend series against Cleveland. Riley Barber and Mike Sgarbossa both scored for Hershey in the opening period and took a 2-1 lead into first intermission. The Monsters scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second period to escape with a 5-2 win. Last Saturday, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms were also held to two goals and dropped a 3-2 contest to the Springfield Thunderbirds. T.J. Brennan and Greg Carey scored for the Phantoms in the loss.

Black Friday Night Lights:

Since the inception of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Bears and Phantoms have met one other time on the day after Thanksgiving. On November 27, 2015, Lehigh Valley edged Hershey in a 6-5 shootout decision at PPL Center. Bears defenseman Tyler Lewington collected his first career AHL goal at 12:24 of the first period.

Big Time Barbs:

Bears forward Riley Barber has now scored in four consecutive games with the Chocolate and White. The streak dates back to Nov. 10 versus the Springfield Thunderbirds. In three of those four contests, Barber has tallied a multi-point game and now has five on the season. The Pittsburgh native currently sits as the team's leading point producer with 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 15 games.

Allentown Woes:

The Bears enter tonight's match up losers of six straight regular season games at the PPL Center in Allentown. Last season, Hershey went 0-6-0-0 on the road and was out scored 33-16. Most recently on March 2, 2018, Lehigh Valley erased a 5-1 deficit at first intermission and rallied to a 7-6 win. Hershey's last win in Lehigh Valley came on April 5, 2017, when Travis Boyd scored an overtime winner to beat the Phantoms, 3-2.

Prospect Versus Prospect:

Both the Bears and Phantoms roster features a highly prospected goaltender with NHL potential. Hershey's Ilya Samsonov was drafted by the Washington Capitals 22nd overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. Samsonov is the highest drafted goaltender by the Capitals since Olaf Kolzig, and is 3-5-0 with a 3.72 goals against average and .875 save percentage. Samsonov is in his first AHL season after parts of four seasons in the KHL. He has appeared in two different U20 IIHF World Junior Championships for Russia and has captured a silver and bronze medal. For the orange and black, Carter Hart is in his first professional season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms after posting record shattering numbers in the WHL. Last season, Hart was named the WHL top goaltender after posting a 1.60 goals against average and .947 save percentage with the Everett Silvertips. Hart is currently 4-3-1 with a 3.52 goals against average and .884 save percentage this season with Lehigh Valley.
