LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Providence (2/12): The Manchester Monarchs scored three goals in the third period but lost in a shootout against the Providence Bruins, 5-4, on their third annual Pink In The Rink game at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday night. Defenseman Andrew Campbell, right wing Brandon Kozun, left wing Tanner Pearson and left wing Colton Yellow Horn scored goals for the Monarchs. The Bruins received goals from defenseman Matt Bartkowski, right wing Graham Mink, center Ryan Spooner and right wing Jamie Tardif. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (7-16-3) took his third shootout loss of the season stopping 22-of-26 shots in regulation and overtime, and turning aside three of eight shootout attempts. Bruins netminder Niklas Svedberg (22-6-2) earned his 22nd win of the season making 27 saves on 31 shots in regulation and overtime, and stopping four of eight shootout attempts. Manchester went 1-for-8 on the power play. Providence was 2-for-5 with the man advantage.

vs. St. John's (2/15): The Manchester Monarchs snapped their six-game winless streak (0-5-0-1) with a 5-2 victory against the St. John's IceCaps at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs tallied goals off the sticks of right wing Brandon Kozun (two), right wing Anthony Stewart and right wing Tyler Toffoli (two). The IceCaps registered goals from left wing Jason Jaffrey and center Eric O'Dell. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (8-16-3) earned his eighth win of the season stopping 22-of-24 shots. IceCaps netminder Mark Dekanich (7-9-0) took his ninth loss of the season making 28 saves on 33 shots. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. St. John's was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

vs. St. John's (2/16): The Manchester Monarchs celebrated their 1,000th game in franchise history but fell to the St. John's IceCaps, 5-3, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs tallied goals from right wing Brandon Kozun (two) and left wing Tanner Pearson. The IceCaps scored goals from center Patrice Cormier, center Aaron Gagnon, left wing Jason Jaffrey, left wing Carl Klingberg and right wing Spencer Machacek. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (12-17-3) took his 17th loss of the season stopping 33-of-37 shots. IceCaps goaltender Mark Dekanich (7-9-0) made three saves on five shots. IceCaps netminder Chris Carrozzi (1-0-0) earned his first win of the season in relief of Dekanich making 15 saves on 16 shots. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. St. John's was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

@ Connecticut (2/17): The Manchester Monarchs opened their six-game road trip with a loss to the Connecticut Whale, 3-2, at the XL Center on Sunday afternoon. Right wing Tyler Toffoli and center Linden Vey scored for the Monarchs. Defenseman Steve Eminger, left wing Brandon Mashinter and right wing Christian Thomas scored for the Whale. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (12-18-3) took his 18th loss of the season making 26 saves on 29 shots. Whale netminder Jason Missiaen (6-4-1) earned his sixth victory of the season stopping 27-of-29 shots. Manchester went 1-for-2 on the power play. Connecticut went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Providence Bruins (30-17-0-3) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 63 points. The Portland Pirates (30-18-1-1) are in second place in the division with 62 points. The Worcester Sharks (23-20-1-5) rank third in the division with 52 points. The Manchester Monarchs (22-24-2-3) are in fourth place in the division with 49 points. The St. John's IceCaps (22-28-1-2) sit in fifth place in the division with 47 points.

The Monarchs are 9-13-0-1 on the road and are 13-11-2-2 at home this season.

Manchester is 11-5-0-0 overall when they play on a Saturday this season.

The Monarchs had a four-game winning streak end with a 4-1 loss to the Connecticut Whale on Friday, January 25.

Manchester snapped a six-game winless streak (0-5-0-1) on Friday, February 16 with a 5-2 victory over the IceCaps.

The Monarchs played in their 1,000th game on Saturday, February 16 against the IceCaps.

After not registering a power play goal in six straight games, the Monarchs have tallied a power play goal in three of their last four games.

Manchester scored three power play goals in a game for the third time this season in a 5-3 victory against the Pirates on Saturday, December 22.

The Monarchs are second in the American Hockey League when faced with a penalty kill on the road (87.8%).

Manchester went 7-4-0-0 during the month of January, their most successful month of the season.

Center Linden Vey (13-30=43) leads the team with 30 assists and 43 points.

Vey appeared in his 100th AHL game (all with the Monarchs) on Saturday, December 15 against the Adirondack Phantoms.

Vey had a nine-game assist and point streak (1-13=14) end on Saturday, January 19. Vey's nine-game assist streak set a Monarchs franchise record.

Vey is the only Monarchs player to appear in all 51 of the team's games this season.

Vey has 24 points (6-18=24) in his last 23 games.

Vey is currently on a six-game point streak (2-4=6).

Vey's 30 assists are tied for third among league skaters.

Vey leads the team with 10 power play assists.

Vey is third on the team with 13 goals.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (24-16=40) is second on the team with 40 points.

Toffoli was named the Monarchs representative on the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic Roster on Thursday, January 17. Toffoli registered a goal and an assist in a 7-6 loss for the Eastern Conference in the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 28.

Toffoli tallied his second hat trick of the season and second against the Pirates in a 5-3 victory on Saturday, December 22.

Toffoli has nine goals in eight games against the Pirates this season, which also leads all VIP Cup skaters.

Toffoli leads the team and AHL rookie skaters with 24 goals this season.

Toffoli's 24 goals are also tied for fourth place among league skaters.

Toffoli's 40 points is third in the league among rookie skaters.

Toffoli leads the team with five power play goals this season.

Toffoli has five goals and five assists for 10 points in his last 10 games.

Toffoli leads the team with 148 shots on goal this season.

Toffoli also leads the team in plus/minus with plus-15.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (16-18=34) is ranked third on the team with 18 assists and 34 points.

Kozun is second on the team with 16 goals this season.

Kozun leads the team with five game-winning goals this season which is tied for fifth place in the AHL.

Kozun tallied game-winning goals against the Sharks on Saturday, October 27, against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 28, against the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7, versus the Bruins on Saturday, January 19 and against the IceCaps on Friday, February 15.

Left wing Tanner Pearson (12-20=32) is in fourth place on the Monarchs with 32 points.

Pearson had a four-game point streak (3-4=7) snapped in a 2-1 loss against the Bruins on Sunday, January 13. The streak matched his season best of four games from November 24 - December 1, 2012.

Pearson is second behind Vey on the Monarchs roster with 20 assists.

Pearson is third on the team in plus/minus with a plus-11.

Center Andrei Loktionov (7-15=22) is in fifth place on the Monarchs with 22 points.

Loktionov was traded to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, February 7 for a fifth round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Left wing Marc-Andre Cliche (8-9=17) is tied with left wing Dwight King (5-12=17) for sixth on the Monarchs with 17 points each.

Cliche had surgery on Monday, February 4 and is expected to be out of the line-up for an extended period of time.

Cliche ranks second on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 329.

Cliche has scored 66 goals in his career with the Monarchs which is tied for seventh place on the franchise's all-time goals scored list.

Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time points list with 148 and ranks ninth on the franchise's all-time assist list with 82.

King was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Defenseman Slava Voynov (7-9=16) ranks eighth on the Monarchs with 16 points.

Voynov's seven goals lead team defensemen.

Voynov rejoined the Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Center Jordan Weal (6-9=15) is ninth on the Monarchs with 15 points.

Weal finished January with five goals and two assists for seven points in 11 games.

Weal scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his professional career with goals on January 5 and January 11.

Right wing Stefan Legein (3-11=14) is in 10th place on the Monarchs with 14 points.

Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (3-10=13) and center Andy Andreoff (6-7=13) are tied for 11th place on the Monarchs with 13 points.

Deslauriers leads Monarchs defensemen with 10 assists this season.

Five points (2-3=5) of Andreoff's 13 this season came during the month of January.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (3-9=12) and defenseman Thomas Hickey (3-9=12) are tied for 13th place on the Monarchs with 12 points each.

Hickey was picked up off waivers by the New York Islanders on Tuesday, January 15.

Defenseman Jake Muzzin (2-9=11) is tied with defenseman David Kolomatis (4-7=11) for 15th place on the Monarchs with 11 points each.

Muzzin was recalled by the Kings on Sunday, January 13.

Three of Kolomatis' four goals this season have come when the team was on a power play.

Kolomatis returned to the Monarchs line-up on Friday, December 28 after missing 23 games due to injury.

Defenseman Bryan Rodney (2-8=10) is in 17th on the Monarchs with 10 points.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (2-7=9) is in 18th place on the Monarchs with nine points.

Six points (1-5=6) of O'Neill's nine this season came during the month of January.

Defenseman Andrew Campbell (1-7=8) is second on the team in plus-minus with plus-13.

Campbell returned from an upper body injury on Friday, December 7 in Providence. Campbell had been out of the line-up since Sunday, October 28 missing 16 games.

Campbell's 325 games rank third on the Monarchs all-time games played list.

Campbell was recalled by the Kings on February 6 and was reassigned to Manchester on February 8. Campbell was unable to meet the Monarchs for Sunday's game due to weather conditions. Campbell was recalled to Kings for a second stint on Wednesday, February 13.

Left wing Richard Clune (2-5=7) is in 20th place on the Monarchs with seven points.

Clune led the team with 98 penalty minutes.

Clune's 786 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.

Clune was picked up off waivers by the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, January 15.

Left wing Jordan Nolan (2-4=6) is in 20th place on the Monarchs with six points.

Nolan was recalled by the Kings on Sunday, January 13.

Left wing David Meckler (2-3=5) is tied with left wing Colton Yellow Horn (1-4=5) for 22nd place on the Monarchs with five points each.

Meckler tallied his second goal of the season in a 3-2 loss against the Bruins on Sunday, February 10.

Meckler's goal was the 76th tally of his Monarchs career ranking second on the franchise all-time list.

Meckler holds the franchise record for games played with 364 in a Monarchs uniform. Meckler's 350th game came against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

Yellow Horn had a four-game point streak (1-4=5) snapped in a 3-2 loss to the Connecticut Whale on Sunday, February 17.

Yellow Horn tallied his first AHL point, an assist, in his AHL debut on Sunday, February 10.

Yellow Horn tallied his first AHL goal on Tuesday, February 12.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (1-3=4) is in 24th place on the Monarchs with four points.

LoVerde tallied his first AHL goal in a 4-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, February 1.

LoVerde scored on Penguins netminder Jeff Zatkoff who is a former teammate of LoVerde's while they played for the NCAA's Miami University (Ohio) Redhawks.

The Monarchs signed LoVerde to a professional tryout agreement on Wednesday, January 9.

Center Robbie Czarnik (3-0=3) is tied with defenseman Chris Huxley (0-3=3) and right wing Anthony Stewart (2-1=3) for 25th place on the Monarchs with three points each.

Huxley made his Monarchs and AHL debut in a 3-0 victory over the Bruins on Wednesday, January 23.

Huxley tallied his first AHL point, an assist, in a 4-1 loss to the Penguins on Friday, February 1.

Huxley had a three-game point and assist streak snapped on Tuesday, February 12.

Huxley has a plus/minus of plus-4 through his first 10 games with the Monarchs.

The Monarchs signed Huxley to a professional tryout agreement on Tuesday, January 22.

The Kings picked up Stewart along with a draft pick from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for right wing Kevin Westgath on Sunday, January 13. Stewart cleared waivers and joined the Monarchs on Tuesday, January 22.

Right wing Justin Johnson (0-0=0) has 14 penalty minutes in nine games this season. Last season, Johnson had 187 penalty minutes in 41 games.

Goaltender Martin Jones (12-18-3) has a 2.54 goals-against-average, a 0.917 save percentage and has stopped 913-of-996 shots attempted in 33 games this season.

Jones appeared in his 100th game in a Monarchs uniform in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, December 16.

Goaltender Peter Mannino (10-7-0) has a 2.47 goal-against-average and a 0.919 save percentage in 20 games this season.

Netminder Jean-Francois Berube (0-1-0) made his season debut in relief of Mannino on Tuesday, January 15 making 13 saves on 17 shots while recording the loss for the Monarchs.
