LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

@ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (2/1): The Manchester Monarchs dropped their first game after the AHL All-Star break, 4-1, to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Friday night. Defenseman Vincent LoVerde scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton tallied goals off the sticks of defenseman center Riley Holzapfel, defenseman Joe Morrow, center Zach Sill and center Trevor Smith. Monarchs netminder Peter Mannino (10-7-0) took his seventh loss of the season stopping 17-of-21 shots. Penguins goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (14-12-0) earned his 14th victory of the season making 21 saves on 22 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

@ Hershey (2/2): The Manchester Monarchs scored late but could not overcome a two-goal deficit as they fell to the Hershey Bears, 2-1, at Giant Center on Saturday night. Center Linden Vey scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Hershey received goals from left wing Barry Almeida and defenseman Cameron Schilling. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (11-15-2) took his 15th loss of the season making 42 saves on 44 shots. Hershey goaltender Philipp Grubauer (3-3-0) earned his third victory of the season stopping 22-of-23 shots. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Hershey went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Portland Pirates (27-16-1-1) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 56 points. The Providence Bruins (25-16-0-3) are in second place in the division with 53 points. The Manchester Monarchs (21-21-2-2) are tied with the Worcester Sharks (20-18-1-5) for third place in the division with 46 points each. The St. John's IceCaps (21-22-1-2) sit in fifth place in the division with 45 points.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (20-14=34) is second on the team with 34 points.

Toffoli was named the Monarchs representative on the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic Roster on Thursday, January 17. Toffoli registered a goal and an assist in a 7-6 loss for the Eastern Conference in the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 28.

Toffoli tallied his second hat trick of the season and second against the Pirates in a 5-3 victory on Saturday, December 22.

Toffoli has nine goals in eight games against the Pirates this season, which also leads all VIP Cup skaters.

Toffoli leads the team and AHL rookie skaters with 20 goals this season.

Toffoli's 20 goals are also tied for second among league skaters.

Toffoli's 34 points rank sixth in the league among rookie skaters.

Toffoli leads the team with five power play goals this season.

Toffoli has six goals and five assists for 11 points in his last 11 games.

Toffoli leads the team with 129 shots on goal this season.

Toffoli also leads the team in plus/minus with plus-14.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (11-18=29) is tied with left wing Tanner Pearson (10-19=29) for third place on the team with 29 points each.

Kozun is ranked third on the team with 18 assists.

Kozun is in third place on the team with 11 goals this season.

Kozun leads the team with four game-winning goals this season which is tied for 11th place in the AHL.

Kozun tallied the game-winning goals against the Sharks on Saturday, October 27, against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 28, against the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7 and versus the Bruins on Saturday, January 19.

Pearson had a four-game point streak (3-4=7) snapped in a 2-1 loss against the Bruins on Sunday, January 13. The streak matched his season best of four games from November 24 "" December 1, 2012.

Pearson is second behind Vey on the Monarchs roster with 19 assists.

Pearson is third on the team in plus/minus with a plus-10.

Center Andrei Loktionov (7-15=22) is in fifth place on the Monarchs with 22 points.

Loktionov leads the team and is tied for fourth in the AHL with two shorthanded goals this season.

Left wing Marc-Andre Cliche (8-9=17) is tied with left wing Dwight King (5-12=17) for sixth on the Monarchs with 17 points each.

Cliche ranks second on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 329.

Cliche has scored 66 goals in his career with the Monarchs which is tied for seventh place on the franchise's all-time goals scored list.

Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time points list with 148 and ranks ninth on the franchise's all-time assist list with 82.

King is tied for third place among league skaters with two shorthanded assists this season.

King was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Defenseman Slava Voynov (7-9=16) ranks eighth on the Monarchs with 16 points.

Voynov's seven goals lead team defensemen.

Voynov rejoined the Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Right wing Stefan Legein (3-11=14) is in ninth place on the Monarchs with 14 points.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (3-9=12) and defenseman Thomas Hickey (3-9=12) are tied for 10th place on the Monarchs with 12 points each.

Bodnarchuk was recalled by the Kings on Monday, January 21.

Hickey was picked up off waivers by the New York Islanders on Tuesday, January 15.

Bodnarchuk is tied with Voynov, Hickey and defenseman Jake Muzzin (2-9=11) for the team lead amongst blueliners with nine assists each.

Muzzin was recalled by the Kings on Sunday, January 13.

Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (3-8=11) is tied with center Andy Andreoff (6-5=11) and Muzzin for 12th place on the Monarchs with 11 points each.

Five points (2-3=5) of Andreoff's 11 this season came during the month of January.

Defenseman David Kolomatis (4-6=10) is tied with center Jordan Weal (6-4=10) for 15th place on the Monarchs with 10 points each.

Three of Kolomatis' four goals this season have come when the team was on a power play.

Kolomatis returned to the Monarchs line-up on Friday, December 28 after missing 23 games due to injury.

Weal finished January with five goals and two assists for seven points in 11 games.

Weal scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his professional career with goals on January 5 and January 11.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (2-7=9) is in 17th place on the Monarchs with nine points.

Six points (1-5=6) of O'Neill's nine this season came during the month of January.

Defenseman Bryan Rodney (2-6=8) is in 18th place on the Monarchs with eight points.

Left wing Richard Clune (2-5=7) is in 19th place on the Monarchs with seven points.

Clune led the team with 98 penalty minutes.

Clune's 786 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.

Clune was picked up off waivers by the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, January 15.

Left wing Jordan Nolan (2-4=6) and defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-6=6) are tied for 20th place on the Monarchs with six points each.

Nolan was recalled by the Kings on Sunday, January 13.

Campbell is second on the team in plus-minus with plus-11.

Campbell returned from an upper body injury on Friday, December 7 in Providence. Campbell had been out of the line-up since Sunday, October 28 missing 16 games.

Campbell's 325 games rank third on the Monarchs all-time games played list.

Center Robbie Czarnik (3-0=3) is tied with left wing David Meckler (1-2=3) for 22nd place on the Monarchs with three points each.

Meckler tallied his first goal of the season in a 5-2 victory against the Pirates on Sunday, January 20.

Meckler's goal was the 75th tally of his Monarchs career ranking second on the franchise all-time list.

Meckler holds the franchise record for games played with 364 in a Monarchs uniform. Meckler's 350th game came against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (1-1=2) is tied with defenseman Chris Huxley (0-2=2) for 24th on the Monarchs with two points each.

LoVerde tallied his first AHL goal in a 4-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, February 1.

LoVerde scored on Penguins netminder Jeff Zatkoff who is a former teammate of LoVerde's while they played for the NCAA's Miami University (Ohio) Redhawks.

The Monarchs signed LoVerde to a professional tryout agreement on Wednesday, January 9.

Huxley made his Monarchs and AHL debut in a 3-0 victory over the Bruins on Wednesday, January 23.

Huxley tallied his first AHL point, an assist, in a 4-1 loss to the Penguins on Friday, February 1.

Huxley has tallied assists in each of his last two games.

The Monarchs signed Huxley to a professional tryout agreement on Tuesday, January 22.

Right wing Anthony Stewart (1-0=1) ranks 26th on the Monarchs with one point.

The Kings picked up Stewart along with a draft pick from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for right wing Kevin Westgath on Sunday, January 13. Stewart cleared waivers and joined the Monarchs on Tuesday, January 22.

Right wing Justin Johnson (0-0=0) has 10 penalty minutes in seven games this season. Last season, Johnson had 187 penalty minutes in 41 games.

Goaltender Martin Jones (11-15-2) has a 2.43 goals-against-average, a 0.921 save percentage and has stopped 783-of-850 shots attempted in 28 games this season.

Jones appeared in his 100th game in a Monarchs uniform in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, December 16.

Goaltender Peter Mannino (10-7-0) has a 2.47 goal-against-average and a 0.919 save percentage in 20 games this season.

Pink In The Rink "" The Monarchs Care Foundation and the Catholic Medical Center are once again teaming up to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast cancer at their third annual Pink In The Rink game. Join the Monarchs when they host the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9 to support the cause. The night will feature pink ice and specialty pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game's conclusion.
