LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
@ Providence (10/12): The Manchester Monarchs took a 3-1 victory against Providence Bruins in their Season Opener at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. The Monarchs received goals from centers Andy Andreoff, Andrei Loktionov and Linden Vey. Right wing Jamie Tardif scored the lone goal for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (1-0-0) earned his first win of the season stopping 29-of-30 shots. Bruins netminder Michael Hutchinson (0-1-0) took his first loss of the season making 18 saves on 21 shots. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
@ Albany (10/13): Defenseman David Kolomatis scored two power play goals to lead the Manchester Monarchs in a 2-1 victory against Albany Devils at the Times Union Center on Saturday night. Left wing Chad Wiseman scored the lone goal for the Devils. Monarchs netminder Martin Jones (2-0-0) earned his second consecutive victory of the season stopping 22-of-23 shots. Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid (0-1-0) took his first loss of the season making 25 saves on 27 shots. Manchester went 2-for-3 on the power play. Albany was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (2-0-0-0) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with four points. The St. John's IceCaps (1--1-0-0) are in second place in the division with two points. The Worcester Sharks (0-1-0-1) rank third in the division with one point. The Portland Pirates (0-1-0-0) and Providence Bruins (0-2-0-0) are tied for fourth place in the division with zero points each.
The Monarchs are 2-0-0-0 on the road this season.
With a victory against the Bruins on Friday, October 12, Manchester improved their all-time Opening Night record to 5-7-0-0.
The Monarchs have started the season and their road schedule 2-0-0-0 for the first time since the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
Manchester is now 2-5-0-0 when they open their season on the road.
The Monarchs are 3-for-6 (50.0%) on the power play through the first two games of the season.
Manchester's penalty kill is 9-for-9 (100.0%) to begin the season.
Defenseman Jake Muzzin (0-3=3) leads the team both in assists (three) and points (0-3=3).
Muzzin tallied two assists in a 3-1 victory against the Bruins on Friday, October 12. Muzzin has a two-game assist and point streak to begin the 2012-13 regular season.
Muzzin has been on the ice for every goal scored both for and against the Monarchs in each of the first two games this season.
Defenseman David Kolomatis (2-0=2) is tied for second on the team with right wing Brandon Kozun (0-2=2) with two points tallied on the season.
Kolomatis scored two power play goals in his first game this season in a 2-1 victory against the Albany Devils on Saturday, October 13.
Kolomatis leads the team with two goals.
Kozun has tallied an assist in each of the first two games this season. Both assists came on each of the Monarchs first two game-winning goals.
Center Andy Andreoff (1-0=1) is tied with center Andrei Loktionov (1-0=1), center Linden Vey (1-0=1), left wing Nikolay Prokhorkin (0-1=1), defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (0-1=1) and right wings Stefan Legein (0-1=1) and Tyler Toffoli (0-1=1) for fourth place on the Monarchs with one point this season.
Andreoff tallied the game-winning goal at 1:43 of the third period on Opening Night against the Bruins last Friday night.
Loktionov tallied the Monarchs first shorthanded goal of the season and second of his American Hockey League career against the Bruins on Friday. Manchester led the league with 15 shorthanded tallies last season.
Loktionov's only previous shorthanded goal was also the game-winning tally in a 4-3 victory against the Pirates on December 17, 2010.
Vey leads the team in plus/minus with a plus-2 rating.
Prokhorkin tallied an assist on Kolomatis' game-winning goal against the Devils on Saturday, October 13. The game also marked Prokhorkin's AHL debut.
Bodnarchuk played against his former team, the Bruins, on Friday, October 12, registering an assist, a shot and a plus-1 rating.
Left wing Tanner Pearson (0-0=0) made his professional debut with the Monarchs against the Bruins on Friday, October 14.
Defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-0=0) appeared in his 300th professional game (all with the Monarchs) against the Devils on Saturday, October 13. Campbell's 300 games rank second all-time on the Monarchs most games played list.
Left wing Richard Clune (0-0=0) leads the team in penalty minutes with 11. Clune's 703 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.
Goaltender Martin Jones (2-0-0) backstopped the Monarchs in both games last weekend registering a 1.00 goals-against-average and a 0.962 save percentage (51-of-53 shots attempts) in 120 minutes played.
MONARCHS PROMOTIONS
Max And Cheese With A Twist- The Monarchs Care Foundation, the New Hampshire Food Bank and AutoFair have partnered to create the first Max & Cheese assembly lines featuring the Monarchs players and three lucky fans. The assembly lines will package the New Hampshire Food Bank's homemade macaroni and cheese for families throughout New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Food Bank will be selling $10 raffle tickets for fans to win the opportunity to help the Monarchs players package up enough macaroni and cheese to create over 15,000 meals from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, October 25. The raffle tickets are on sale now at www.manchestermonarchs.com and will also be sold during the Monarchs Home Opening Weekend, presented by AutoFair, on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. against the Providence Bruins and Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. against the Portland Pirates. Monarchs fans are also encouraged to bring boxes of macaroni and cheese to both of the team's Home Opening Weekend games and use the boxes as noise makers to cheer the Monarchs on to victory. At the end of the games, the team will collect the boxes of macaroni and cheese and donate them to the New Hampshire Food Bank.
