LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Bridgeport (1/4): The Manchester Monarchs were blanked by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-0, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. Right wing Sean Backman, left wing Michael Haley, left wing Tony Ramano and right wing Rhett Rakhshani lit the lamp for the Sound Tigers. Goaltender Martin Jones (11-9-1) took his ninth loss of the season stopping 34-of-38 shots. Sound Tigers goaltender Kevin Poulin (9-12-0) won his ninth game of the season making 24 saves on 24 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Bridgeport was 3-for-7 with the man advantage.

@ St. John's (1/6): The Manchester Monarchs gave up four unanswered goals as they fell to the St. John's IceCaps, 4-2, at the Mile One Centre on Friday night. Center Robbie Czarnik and right wing Linden Vey scored for the Monarchs. The IceCaps made it on the scoreboard with tallies from left wing Shawn Weller (two) and defenseman Jason DeSantis. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-5-1) took his fifth loss of the season stopping 43-of-47 shots. IceCaps netminder David Aebischer (9-3-1) earned his ninth win of the season making 23 saves on 25 shots. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. St. John's was also 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

@ St. John's (1/7): The Manchester Monarchs dropped their third consecutive game, a 3-2 loss to the St. John's IceCaps at the Mile One Centre on Saturday night. The Monarchs picked up goals from right wing Rob Mignardi and left wing Dwight King. Right wing Spencer Machacek, left wing Jason Gregoire and center John Albert scored for the IceCaps. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (11-10-1) took his 10th loss of the season stopping 33-of-36 shots. IceCaps netminder David Aebischer (10-3-1) earned his 10th win of the season making 14 saves on 16 shots. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. St. John's was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (21-15-0-2) dropped to second place in the Atlantic Division with three consecutive losses this week. The Monarchs have 44 points. The St. John's IceCaps (21-8-4-1) moved into first place in the division with 47 points. The Worcester Sharks (17-11-3-4) are in third place in the division with 41 points. The Portland Pirates (16-15-2-3) sit in fourth place in the division with 37 points. The Providence Bruins (16-18-1-3) are in fifth place in the division with 36 points.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 12-6-0-1 record.

For the first time since the Monarchs five-game losing streak October 16 - 26, Manchester has lost three consecutive games. The Monarchs were shutout, 4-0, on Wednesday, January 4 by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and then dropped a 4-2 decision and a 3-2 game to the IceCaps on Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7, respectively.

Manchester has won two of their last six games and are 5-5-0-0 in their last 10 games.

This season, the Monarchs are 15-4-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.

Manchester is 15-9-0-2 against Atlantic Division teams this season.

The Monarchs are 11-2-0-2 in games when they have led after the first period and 11-0-0-1 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first this season, the Monarchs are 15-4-0-2.

Manchester's 690 penalty minutes rank fifth in the league this season. The team is averaging 18.2 penalty minutes a game which also ranks fifth in the league.

The Monarchs have been outshot in 26 of their 38 games and own a 14-11-0-1 record in those games.

Monarchs center Marc-Andre Cliche (11-11=22) leads the team with 11 goals and 22 points.

Cliche's three game-winning goals are tied with right wing Linden Vey (10-9=19) for most on the team and they are both tied for 10th place in the AHL.

Cliche ranks second on the team with a plus-10 rating.

Going a perfect 6-for-6 in the shootout, Cliche ranks first on the team and in the AHL.

Vey has four goals in his last eight games, including two game-winning goals. Left wing Dwight King (7-14=21) is second on the team with 21 points and tied for the team lead with defenseman Parick Mullen (5-14=19) with 14 assists each.

King tallied at least one point (5-7=12) in 11 of 13 games in December.

Mullen's 19 points are tied for third place on the Monarchs with Vey and right wing Brandon Kozun (8-11=19).

Mullen leads Monarchs defensemen with five goals, 14 assists and 19 points this season.

Kozun is third on the team with eight goals scored this season.

Kozun's three power play goals lead the team.

Right wing Jordan Nolan (6-10=16) is ranked sixth on the Monarchs with 16 points.

Nolan recorded two assists in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the IceCaps; his first two points since returning from injury.

Nolan's 100 penalty minutes lead the Monarchs and is ranked 10th in the league.

Center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) ranks seventh on the Monarchs with 14 points each. Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14 and has recorded four points (0-4=4) and two penalty minutes in 21 games this season.

In 41 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has 11 points (4-7=11) and four penalty minutes.

Center Justin Azevedo (5-8=13) and defenseman David Kolomatis (4-9=13) are tied for eighth place on the Monarchs.

Defenseman Thomas Hickey (1-11=12) leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-11. Hickey was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 29-30.

Right wing Justin Johnson (1-1=2) is second on the team and is tied for 13th in the AHL with 94 penalty minutes.

Defenseman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 24 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has 10 points (4-6=10) and six penalty minutes.

Johnson tallied his first goal of the season on Monday, December 26 and came just 40 seconds into the game. The goal was the fastest opening goal by a Monarchs player this season.

Goaltender Martin Jones owns an 11-10-1 record, a 2.62 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage in 22 games for the Monarchs this season.

Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a record of 10-5-1, a 2.16 goals-against-average and a .933 save percentage in 18 games.

Zatkoff's 2.16 goals-against-average ranks fourth in the AHL and his .933 save percentage is second best in the league.

Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record ranks sixth in the AHL.

Zatkoff was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 29-30.

Join the Monarchs when they host the Connecticut Whale at 7:00 p.m. on February 11 to support the cause. The night will feature pink ice and specialty pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game's conclusion.
