LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Binghamton (3/10): Left wing Josh Hennessy potted two goals and recorded an assist as the Binghamton Senators defeated the Manchester Monarchs by a score of 5-3 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. Center Justin Azevedo, left wing Bud Holloway and defenseman David Kolomatis scored for the Monarchs. Left wing Denis Hamel, right wing Jason Bailey, left wing Josh Hennessy (2) and right wing Ryan Keller found the back of the net for the Senators. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (26-18-5) saw 39 minutes and 42 seconds in net through two periods and drew the loss, stopping 23-of-28 shots on goal. Senators netminder Chris Holt (12-12-1) earned his 12th victory of the season, stopping 27-of-30 shots. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff replaced Bernier for the third period and stopped all 15 shots on net. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Binghamton was 2-for-8 with the man advantage.

At Portland (3/12): Goaltender Jhonas Enroth collected his fifth shutout of the season by stopping all 29 shots he faced as the Manchester Monarchs were blanked by the Portland Pirates, 4-0, at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday night. Left wing Brad Larsen, left wing Jeff Cowan, center Paul Byron and center Tyler Ennis lit the lamp for the Pirates. Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff (8-9-0) took his ninth loss of the season with 28 saves on 32 shots. Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth (28-18-1) earned his fifth shutout of the season stopping all 29 shots he faced in the game. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Portland was 3-for-7 with the man advantage.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (34-24-3-5) are tied for third place in the Atlantic Division with the Lowell Devils (34-25-4-4) with 76 points each. The Worcester Sharks (41-20-2-3) lead the Atlantic Division with 87 points followed by the Portland Pirates (36-22-5-4) with 81 points.

The Atlantic Division's top four teams are separated by 11 points.

The Monarchs are 20-11-1-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season.

Manchester is 3-6-1-0 in their last 10 games.

The Monarchs penalty kill is ranked sixth in the AHL. They have given up 41 goals in 278 attempts when their opponent has had the man advantage.

Their power play is ranked sixth in the league with 47 goals on 249 opportunities with the man advantage.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent in 47-of-66 games thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 18-1-1-0 when scoring the first goal on home ice.

Left wing Bud Holloway (17-25=42) leads the Monarchs in both assists (25) and points (42).

Holloway is tied for 10th in the AHL with five game-winning-goals this season.

Center Corey Elkins (19-20=39) ranks second on Manchester's roster with 39 points.

Elkins leads the Monarchs with 19 tallies this season.

Center Gabe Gauthier (8-22=30) ranks second on the squad with 22 assists and sits in third place with 30 points.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (8-18=26) leads Monarchs blueliners and ranks fourth overall on the team with 26 points.

Defenseman Drew Bagnall (2-8=10) leads the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-11.

Right wing Scott Parse (4-11=15), who was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, March 3, is tied with Bagnall with a plus-11 rating.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth's career-high 23 points (11-12=23) have moved him into sole possession of fifth place on the Monarchs roster, narrowly above center Marc-Andre Cliche (11-11=22) who returned from the Kings on Wednesday, March 3.

Cliche recorded his team leading third shorthanded goal of the season in the team's 4-0 blanking of the Providence Bruins on Saturday, February 20. His three shorthanded goals are also tied for seventh in the AHL.

Rookie left wing Dwight King's (7-12=19) four-game point streak came to an end on Sunday, March 7 when he was held off the scoreboard. King collected a goal and three assists for four points in fours games.

Left wing David Meckler (11-8=19) has picked up the team's last two game-winning goals.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has a record of 26-18-5 in 51 games of the season. His 26 wins are ranked fifth in the AHL.

Bernier's eight shutouts lead the AHL.

Bernier is ranked third in the league with a 2.08 goals-against-average and is ranked first with a.937 save percentage.

Bernier was recalled by the Kings on Thursday, March 11 and played in his first NHL game since October 2007 on Friday against the Dallas Stars. Bernier backstopped the Kings to a 2-1 shootout victory, stopping 29-of-30 shots and all six snipers in the shootout.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has played in 19 games for the Monarchs this season, recording an 8-9-0 record, a 2.82 goals-against-average, a.919 save percentage and two shutouts.
