LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Springfield (2/24): Manchester Monarchs left wing David Meckler potted two goals en route to a 5-2 victory over the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday evening. Along with Meckler's two tallies, right wing Kevin Westgarth, left wing Bud Holloway and center Corey Elkins lit the lamp for the Monarchs. The Falcons picked up goals from left wings Chris Minard and Charles Linglet. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (25-15-5) collected his 25th win of the season, stopping 38-of-40 shots on goal. Falcons netminder Devan Dubnyk (11-17-2) drew the loss, his 17th of the season, halting 35-of-40 pucks. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

Vs. Lowell (2/26): Forwards Stephen Gionta and Ben Walter netted goals less than two minutes apart early third period to help the Lowell Devils edge the Manchester Monarchs, 3-2, on Max's Birthday at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Right wings Scott Parse and John Zeiler picked up tallies for the Monarchs. Defenseman Matthew Corrente joined Gionta and Walter on the scoreboard for the Devils. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (25-16-5) took his 16th loss of the season, stopping 22-of-25 shots on goal. Devils netminder Mike McKenna (18-11-3) collected his 18th win of the season, stopping 40-of-42 shots. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Lowell was also 0-for-1 with the man advantage.

Vs. Albany (2/27): Left wing Chris Terry recorded three assists as the Albany River Rats topped the Manchester Monarchs, 5-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Right wing Geoff Walker and defenseman David Kolomatis scored for the Monarchs. Center Nick Dodge, left wing Jacob Micflikier, left wing Drayson Bowman, center Zach Boychuk and left wing Nicolas Blanchard scored for the River Rats. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (8-8-0) took his eighth loss of the season, stopping 29-of-33 shots on goal. River Rats netminder Justin Peters (22-16-2) collected his 22nd win of the season, stopping 36-of-38 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Albany was 3-for-6 with the man advantage.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (33-22-2-5, 73 points) are ranked third in the Atlantic Division with 73 points. The Portland Pirates (35-18-5-3) lead the division with 78 points followed by the Worcester Sharks (36-18-2-3, 77 points) with 77 points.

The Atlantic Division standings are tight with the top four teams only separated by six points.

The Monarchs are 20-10-0-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season.

Manchester is 4-6-0-0 in their last 10 games.

The Monarchs penalty kill is ranked fourth in the AHL. They have given up 36 goals in 259 attempts when their opponent has had the man advantage.

Their power play is ranked seventh in the league with 47 goals on 239 opportunities with the man advantage.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent in 44-of-62 games thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 18-1-0-0 when scoring the first goal on home ice.

Left wing Bud Holloway (16-24@) leads the Monarchs in both assists (24) and points (40).

Holloway is tied for ninth in the AHL with five game-winning-goals this season.

Center Corey Elkins (18-19=37) ranks second on Manchester's roster with 37 points.

Elkins leads the Monarchs with 18 tallies this season.

Center Gabe Gauthier (8-22=30) ranks second on the squad with 22 assists and sits in third place with 30 points.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (8-18=26) leads Monarchs blueliners and ranks fourth overall on the team with 26 points. He ended his 15-game scoreless drought by picking up an assist in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Springfield. He picked up two assists in three games this week.

Defenseman

Drew Bagnall (2-8=10) leads the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-12.

Right wing Scott Parse (4-11=15) joins the Monarchs from the Los Angeles Kings for the NHL's Olympic break. In just 14

games with Manchester this season, he ranks second on the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-11.

Center Justin Azevedo (8-10=18) has recorded 12 points (6-6=12) in 14 games since returning from a lower body injury that he suffered on November 18.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth's career-high 22 points (11-11=22) have moved him into sole possession of fifth place on the Monarchs roster, narrowly above center Marc-Andre Cliche (11-10=21) who was recalled by the Kings on February 24.

Cliche recorded his team leading third shorthanded goal of the season in the team's 4-0 blanking of the

Providence Bruins

on Saturday, February 20. His three shorthanded goals are also tied for fifth in the AHL.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has a record of 25-16-5 in 47 games of the season. His 25 wins are tied for fourth in the AHL.

Bernier's eight shutouts lead the AHL.

Bernier is tied for third place in the league with a 2.03 goals-against-average and is ranked first with a.939 save percentage.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has played in 17 games for the Monarchs this season, recording an 8-8-0 record, a 2.80 goals- against-average, a.919 save percentage and two shutouts.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

2/24/10: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled center Marc-Andre Cliche and left wing Richard Clune from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

2/18/10: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) released defenseman Johann Kroll from his professional tryout agreement.
