WEEK IN REVIEW

The Monarchs finished their regular season home slate last week and clinched a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs while sweeping a two-game series with the Elmira Jackals.

Saturday, the Monarchs took the first game of the weekend with a 5-2 win. Multi-point nights from Joey Diamond (3a), Rihards Bukarts (2a) and Cory Ward (1g, 1a) pushed the Monarchs one game closer to locking their playoff spot. The additions of Craig Wyszomirski, Tyler Sikura and Zac Lynch back in the line-up strengthened the depth of the bench and contributed to the win, and Jack Flinn made 30 stops in net to earn the win.

Sunday, the Monarchs closed out their final meeting of the season against the Jackals with a 4-2 victory and ended the season with a record of 8-6-0-0 against their North Division foe. Charles Williams got his second start in net and made 25 saves, while improving his save percentage to 0.897. Kevin Morris and Joey Diamond each netted a power-play goal, in addition to tallies from Mario Puskarich and Lynch.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Monarchs (83 pts.) officially clinched a playoff position after their two wins over the Jackals this past week, officially knocking the Wheeling Nailers out of playoff contention. Manchester currently sits in third place behind the Adirondack Thunder (87 pts.) and the Brampton Beast (84 pts.), and one point ahead of the Reading Royals. If the playoffs started today, the Monarchs and Beast would face-off in the North Division Semifinals. With three games left for each of the playoff teams and five points separating the first seed from the fourth seed, it will be a race until the last game of the season for playoff positioning.

LEADING THE WAY

Joey Diamond continues to lead the Monarchs in points with 49, coming from 23 goals and 26 assists. Diamond leads the team in goals scored and is third in assists. Daniel Doremus is not far behind, with a total of 47 points, leading the team with his 37 helpers.

SECONDS PLEASE

When the Monarchs lead after two periods, they hold a 32-0-3-2 overall record. However, when trailing after two, they are 4-22-4-2. With the remainder of games on the road, the team will look to add to their 10-0-2-2 record when leading after the second away from SNHU Arena.

HOME SWEET HOME

To close out their final match-up of the season against their division foes, the Monarchs will face the Adirondack Thunder who have an impressive home record and have been hot of late. The Thunder hold a 21-8-3-3 record at home on the season and are 7-0-0-1 in their last eight games overall. If the Monarchs want to improve on their 4-3-0-0 record at the Glens Falls Civic Center, they will need to solve Mason McDonald who has had their number all season. The Thunder goaltender has posted a 6-2-1 record, a 2.42 GAA and a 0.890 save percentage in his games against the Monarchs.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

So far this season, the Monarchs have faced the Brampton Beast only once, an overtime loss on home ice. The Monarchs will visit Brampton for the first time this year in the last two games of the regular season for what could be a preview of the North Division Semifinals. Brampton is led by David Vallorani (80 pts.) and David Pacan (79 pts.), who sit 3rd and 4th respectively in the ECHL in scoring.

TICKETS

The Monarchs will host start the 2017 Kelly Cup Finals at home, as Game 1 of the best-of-seven series will begin Friday, Apr. 14 (7 p.m.), with Game 2 slated for Saturday, Apr. 15 (6 p.m.).
