Wilson Named Ami Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of Month

MOLINE, Ill. - Quad City Mallards defenseman Mike Wilson has been named the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for March after leading the league with a plus-minus rating of plus-15 last month, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the ECHL.

Wilson, 29, posted an even or plus rating in 11 of his 12 games in March. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound North Vancouver, British Columbia, native set a personal single game season high by registering a +3 on three occasions: on March 11 in a 6-4 Mallard victory over the Wheeling Nailers; on March 18 in a 5-0 shutout of the Missouri Mavericks; and on March 28 in a 4-1 defeat of the Wichita Thunder.

Wilson has posted a plus-19 while scoring twice and picking up 12 assists for 14 points in 33 games this season.

Wilson returned to North America with the Mallards this season after scoring six goals, adding 21 assists and totaling 27 points in 52 games with the Belfast Giants in Britain's Elite Ice Hockey League last year.

Prior to this season, Wilson last played in the United States in 2014-15 when he finished fourth among ECHL defensemen in points (50), tied for fifth in assists (37) and tied for sixth in goals (13) while appearing in all 72 games for Wichita. He also played for the Thunder- then a member of the Central Hockey League- in 2013-14.

The Mallards are Wilson's fifth ECHL club. In addition to Wichita, he previously played for the Orlando Solar Bears, Victoria Salmon Kings and Phoenix Roadrunners. Wilson played for a pair of CHL teams- the Thunder and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Wilson has also skated in 95 American Hockey League games for the Worcester Sharks, with whom he broke into the professional ranks in 2008-09. He has notched six goals and 15 assists for 21 career AHL points.

Last season's European sojourn was the third of Wilson's career. He spent part of the 2011-12 campaign with Starbulls Rosenheim in Germany and had a short stint with Aalborg Pirates in Denmark in 2013-14.

In all, Wilson has recorded 53 goals, 204 assists and 257 points in 517 career regular season games.

Wilson turned pro after spending two full campaigns and parts of three others in the Western Hockey League, where he skated for the Swift Current Broncos for two and a half seasons after a pair of brief stints with the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow night on the road against the Indy Fuel. The Mallards play their regular season home finale Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Komets. Friday also brings the return of $ 2 Dog/$2 Beer Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $2 hot dogs and beers from iWireless Center concession stands during every Friday Mallards home game. In addition, t he Mallards have once again this season partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during all Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.
