WORCESTER, MA - The Manchester Monarchs recorded a seaso-n-high 50 shots on goal but fell to the Worcester Sharks, 4-1, at the DCU Center on Tuesday night.

Manchester (36-32-2-3) is tied with the Portland Pirates (34-30-4-5) for second place in the Atlantic Division with 77 points each. The Sharks (30-31-4-8) are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 72 points.

"Believe it or not, we outplayed Worcester for much of the game," said Monarch Head Coach Mark Morris. "Our compete level was high. We generated a ton of chances but (Harri) Sateri was a difference maker tonight. You have to give him credit for keeping us off the score sheet for much of the night. We got one by him in the third period on a late power play but that was it. At key moments, we delivered pucks in the skates or missed the net. To be successful, we need to complete more plays when opportunity knocks."

The Sharks took a 2-0 lead on the power play when defenseman Sena Acolatse tallied his seventh goal of the season at 14:51 of the third period. Forward Nathan Moon played the puck from behind the Monarchs cage up to center Ben Guite along the left wing half wall. Guite found Acolatse at the left point for a one-timer that soared through traffic and beat Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff for the eventual game-winning goal.

Right wing Sebastian Stalberg opened the scoring for the Sharks at 5:26 of the first period with his third goal of the season. With the Sharks cycling the puck in the Monarchs zone, defenseman Mike Moore fired a slap shot from the right point producing a rebound to the right wing corner. Left wing Tony Lucia tracked down the loose puck in the corner and fed Stalberg in the right face-off circle. Stalberg settled the puck and snapped a shot on net that beat Zatkoff high over his right shoulder.

The Monarchs cut the lead in half when left wing David Meckler punched in a loose puck at 17:05 of the third period to bring the score to 2-1. Right wing Linden Vey collected the puck in the right corner off a pass by right wing Brandon Kozun who was behind the Sharks cage. Vey found defenseman Patrick Mullen at the top of the right wing face-off circle for a one-timer that produced a rebound in front of Sharks netminder Harri Sateri. Meckler swiped at the rebound numerous times and was finally able to poke it into the back of the net for his 10th goal of the season.

Acolatse tallied his second goal of the game on the power play at 18:35 of the third period. Moore cycled the puck from the right wing corner back to Guite along the right wing half wall. Guite fed the puck up to Acolatse at the right point where he ripped a slap shot through traffic and past Zatkoff for his eighth goal of the season and second tally of the game.

Guite finished off the Monarchs with an empty net goal at 19:49 of the third period. Guite picked off a pass at center ice along the boards before gaining the Monarchs zone down the left wing. After crossing over the Monarchs blueline, Guite wristed the puck into the empty net for his third goal of the season.

Zatkoff (20-17-1) took his 17th loss of the season stopping 29-of-32 shots. Sateri (14-19-1) earned his 14th victory of the season making 49 saves on 50 shots.

Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Worcester was 2-for-5 with the man advantage.
