Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford completed their 2011-12 road schedule with 2-1 and 8-2 victories in Charlotte this past weekend. The team compiled a record of (24-11-0- 3) away from the AESC, the best road-record in the Conference.

Saturday's win saw Abbotsford score two unanswered goals en route to a 2-1 win against the Checkers with Krys Kolanos tally- ing both goals for the Heat.

Sunday saw multi-point games enjoyed by Kolanos, Dustin Syl- vester, Paul Byron, and Brian Connelly; it was Kolanos' second five point game of his career having just accomplished the feat two weeks ago against the Rampage. Sunday's win was the team's 40th of the season - a new franchise record - and saw the Heat clinch a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the second time in franchise history.

Danny Taylor made both starts in the Carolinas earning his 20th and 21st wins of the season. The Heat close out their regular season schedule this weekend at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre as the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs) make their lone visit to the West Coast this season.

The Heat visited Canada's big- gest city in October and in Febru- ary to face the Marlies and were beaten both times, though they failed to field some of their top players against the Marlies on either visit. Heat leading scorer Krys Kolanos hasn't played the second-seeded Marlies once this season.

The Heat have clinched a playoff spot and will now work to se- cure the fourth and final home ice playoff position in the West, which they hold coming into this weekend's action. The Heat have played well against North Division teams this season recording 12 wins, four regulation losses and two shootout losses in 18 games played.

Friday's game will be followed by the second Post-Game Concert of the year featuring Victoria Duffield while Sunday is prizes galore for Fan Appreciation!

One of the AHL's most dangerous snipers extended his league best goal scoring streak to seven games in Sunday's 8-2 win in Charlotte. Ko- lanos now has raised the franchise record for goals in a season to 30 and has collected 11 goals and seven assists over the seven-game streak.

In the past couple of days Kolanos has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week and the re- Gen/AHL Performance of the Month for March. The reGen award was based on his five-point performance against the Rampage on March 25th
