Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, will donate $1,000 scholarships to the Londonderry High School Marching Band and to the Souhegan High School Girl's Hockey Team as part of their Investing In Our Youth grant program, the team announced on Thursday. Thanks to the Investing In Our Youth grant program, the Monarchs are able to award two $1,000 scholarships every month. One of the scholarships goes to a deserving school organization. The other scholarship goes to a deserving youth sports team.
The Londonderry Marching Band annually represents New Hampshire in parades throughout the country. Often the band travels with nearly 250 students. The band's support group, Friends of Music, requested the Investing In Our Youth grant money to purchase a laptop computer. The band plans to use the computer for communication and coordination purposes during future trips across the country.
Because girl's hockey is not recognized as a varsity sport in the state, the Souhegan High School Girl's Hockey Team does not receive funding for equipment or uniforms. In the past, the players have used their own money to purchase these items. The team plans to use the Investing In Our Youth grant money to purchase team jerseys and goalie equipment.

The Monarchs are off until they host the Portland Pirates on Friday night, March 25 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Friday's game against the Pirates gets underway at 7:35 p.m.
