
Monarchs Reassign Milam, Release Van Oene

MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have loaned defenseman Troy Milam to their ECHL affiliate, the Reading Royals, and released forward Darren Van Oene from his professional tryout agreement, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced on Monday. Milam, 24, has appeared in 37 games with the Monarchs this season, recording 11 points (2-9=11) and 30 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 188-pound native of Lake Orion, Michigan, has appeared 44 career games with the Monarchs over the last two seasons, recording 12 points (3-9=12) and 30 penalty minutes. Milam, a second-year pro, inked a one-year contract with the Monarchs on September 8, 2004.
Van Oene, 27, has appeared in four games with the Monarchs, recording zero points and 10 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 216-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, and second-round (33rd overall) selection of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, has also appeared in 44 games with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League and four games with the Providence Bruins (AHL) this season. The veteran of over 400 AHL games has 24 points (9-15=24) and 38 penalty minutes with the Jackals and zero points and seven penalty minutes with the P-Bruins.
Mullet Night â The Final Cut: The Manchester Monarchs will pay homage to "hockey hair" one last time when they host the Worcester IceCats at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1. On hand for this sad but historic event will be former Mullet Hall of Fame winners Barry Melrose, a former coach of the Kings and current ESPN personality, and The Hanson Brothers, immortalized as members of the Charlestown Chiefs in the classic hockey movie, "Slap Shot."
Tickets for Mullet Night - The Final Cut, sponsored by TRIMZ Family Haircut Center, are on sale now and may be purchased at the Verizon Wireless Arena box office. Individual tickets may also be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (603) 868-7300, or by visiting Ticketmaster on-line at www.ticketmaster.com. The first 5,000 fans attending the Monarchs game against the IceCats will receive free mullet wigs, courtesy of TRIMZ Family Haircut Center.
