LAST WEEK: The Senators won the only game of a light week 5-3 at Albany on Friday evening.
FRIDAY, FEB. 25TH @ ALBANY (5-3 W): The Senators won their second straight game at the Pepsi Arena 5-3 on Friday evening. JASON SPEZZA scored the game's first goal becoming the first Senators player to score 80 points in a season. SPEZZA'S goal was the first of five scored between the teams in a span of 6 minutes and 50 seconds. AHREN NITTEL and PASCAL RHEAUME scored for Albany while BRANDON BOCHENSKI and ANTOINE VERMETTE scored for Binghamton. After a scoreless second period, BRIAN POTHER scored his eighth power-play goal of the season at 2:47 of the third period. The goal held up as the game winner with Albany getting one more goal from RHEAUME and DENIS HAMEL scoring on an empty net with 51 seconds remaining in the game. RAY EMERY made 21 saves on 24 shots to win his 17th game of the season. ARI AHONEN saw his record against the Senators drop to 3-4-0 with the loss. He stopped 26 of 30 shots. Binghamton was 1 of 4 with the man advantage while the River Rats scored on 1 of 3 chances.
THIS WEEK: The Senators will play three games at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena this week after only playing once on home ice in the month of February. On Wednesday and Friday the Sens face off against the Norfolk Admirals in a pair of important East Division contests. Norfolk is currently one point ahead of Binghamton for the East Division lead. The week concludes on Saturday as Albany visits the Arena for the fifth and final time this season.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2ND vs. NORFOLK (7:05 p.m.): Season ticket holders may exchange the bring a guest night coupon in their season ticket books for an additional ticket to the game.
The Admirals will make their last appearance of the regular season in Binghamton this week in a pair of games between the East Division rivals. Norfolk took over first place in the East Divison last week by winning three of their five games. PAVEL VOROBIEV, a winger from Karaganda, Kazakhstan scored at least one point in each of the Admirals five games last week (4g, 3a). The Senators are 1-3-0-0 against the Admirals this season.
FRIDAY, MARCH 4TH vs. NORFOLK (7:05 p.m.): First 2,000 fans to enter the Arena will receive a Turn-It-Up Cup thanks to the Binghamton Senators Booster Club. The Turn-It-Up Cup can be used as a megaphone, clapper or cup holder and was invented by Vestal native Thomas Kuracina.
Norfolk and Binghamton will square off again on Friday evening at the Arena. Binghamton is 13-4-0-2 on Fridays this season. JASON SPEZZA leads Binghamton with six points (2g, 4a) in four games against Norfolk. SPEZZA had a four-point night (2g, 2a) against the Admirals on Oct. 29th. Defenseman MARTY WILFORD (2g, 2a) and forward AJAY BAINES (1g, 3a) each have four points in four games. CHRIS KELLY leads all skaters with a +5 rating. RAY EMERY has played all four games in net for Binghamton and holds a 1-3-0 record with a 3.03 goals-against average. MICHAEL LEIGHTON has a 2-1-0 record for Norfolk with one shutout and a 2.02 goals-against average.
SATURDAY, MARCH 5TH vs. ALBANY (7:05 p.m.): The Zooperstars return to Binghamton on Saturday thanks to Roberts Eyecare Associates and News Channel 34. Binghamton Senators players will skate with the fans for 30 minutes following the game.
Albany visits the Arena for the final time this season. Binghamton has won two straight against the River Rats â both at the Pepsi Arena â pushing their record to 4-2-1-1 in the series. DENIS HAMEL (5g, 4a), JASON SPEZZA (4g, 5a) and BRIAN POTHER (2g, 7a) each have nine points in eight games against Albany. ALEKSANDRE SUGLOBOV has eight points (5g, 3a) in eight games for Albany. Winger GREG WATSON leads the Senators with a +5 rating in the series. Defenseman BOBBY ALLEN also has a +5 rating to lead the River Rats.
SENS SNIPPETS: Binghamton will play three games at home in a week for the first time since the week of January 24th when Providence, Albany and Syracuse visited the Arena...The Senators are on a season high four-game winning streak away from the Arena...11 of the Senators 13 games in March are against East Division opponents. 16 of the Senators remaining 22 games are also against East Division teams...The Sens win at Albany on Friday puts them at .500 in road games for the first time this season...With eight more points this season JASON SPEZZA will surpass the total of last season's leading scorer, PAVEL ROSA of Manchester (39g, 49a). He is only one assist away from tying DOMENIC PITTIS of Rochester, last year's leader in assists with 56. BRANDON BOCHENSKI is seven points away from surpassing last season's rookie scoring leader KYLE WELLWOOD of St. John's who had 55 points (20g, 35a).
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: Come and be served by the Senators at the Spaghetti on Ice dinner at the Holiday Inn Arena on Sunday, March 6th from 1 to 3 p.m. in downtown Binghamton. The cost to attend the dinner is $15 with proceeds benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. There will also be entertainment by Louie G of STAR 105.7 and autograph and photo sessions with the players. All guests attending the dinner will receive complementary Spaghetti on Ice puck and entered into a drawing to win a Senators jersey signed by the team. The Senators next media luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15th at 1:30 p.m.
FANS HAVE CHANCE TO WIN $10,000 AT FRIDAY'S GAME: 25 rally towels â one with each Binghamton player's number on it â will be tossed into the stands during the second period. If the Senators score between the 10:10 and 10:01 mark of the second period, then the fan with the rally towel of the player who scores will win a cash prize ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on the time of the goal. If the goal is scored at 10:10 the fan wins $1,000 with the prize rising by $1,000 with each second until 10:01 when the maximum prize of $10,000 can be won. Only one cash award will be given.
