Monarchs Make It Seven In A Row Over Falcons

March 9, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH – Center Michael Cammalleri extended his scoring streak to 10 games and goaltender Adam Hauser collected his 15th win as the Manchester Monarchs beat the Springfield Falcons, 3-1, before 6,900 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. The win was the seventh in seven tries for the Monarchs against the last place Falcons (17-37-2-3, 39 points) this season. The win also was the Monarchs seventh straight over the Falcons on home ice. The home ice streak dates back to last season.

With the win, their 23rd on home ice, the Monarchs (39-16-3-3, 84 points) tied a franchise mark for home wins in a season and regained at least a share of first place in the American Hockey League's Atlantic Division. The Hartford Wolf Pack (39-19-2-2, 82 points), which trails the Monarchs by two points in the standings, was scheduled to play the Utah Grizzles at the "E" Center late Wednesday night. The Monarchs also recorded 23 home wins in each of the previous three seasons.

The Falcons struck first with a goal from veteran center Craig Darby in the opening period. Darby sliced his sixth goal of the season between Hauser (21 shots, 20 saves) and the left post at 3:28. Left wing Ryan Craig and right wing Jim Campbell shared assists on the goal.

The Monarchs tied the game late in the period with a goal from right wing Brad Smyth. Cammalleri and left wing Dustin Brown assisted on Smyth's 15th of the season, ripped over the right shoulder of Falcons goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier (32 shots, 29 saves) at 19:28.

With an assist on the play, Cammalleri extended his scoring streak to 10 games (7-9=16) and tied the Monarchs record for assists in a season with 49.

The Monarchs took the lead in the second period with a goal from rookie center David Steckel, who stuffed his own rebound through the pads of Pelletier at 7:44. Rookie left wing Ryan Kinasewich and defenseman Mike Weaver assisted on Steckel's fourth of the season.

Cammalleri iced the game with his league-leading 37th goal, rocketed home from the left circle 7:28 into the third period. Smyth and Brown assisted on the play with Smyth one-arming his pass to Cammalleri to setup the score.

With 86 points (37-49=86) on the season, Cammalleri trails Binghamton Senators center Jason Spezza (25-62=87) by one point for the overall scoring lead in the AHL. Cammalleri also needs just two more points to tie the Monarchs record for points in a season. Former Monarchs left wing Pavel Rosa led the Monarchs and the league with 88 points (39-49=88) last year.

Hauser improved to 3-0-0 against the Falcons this season with 16 saves over the final two periods. He upped his overall record to 15-8-0 on the season. Pelletier (8-21-2) took the loss, his 21st of the year.

The Monarchs were not awarded a power play on the night. The Falcons finished 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.

The Monarchs continue their current four-game homestand when they return to action against the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. After that, they'll welcome back the Falcons for a return engagement on Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
