Jeff Hutchins Signs PTO

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have signed left wing Jeff Hutchins to a professional tryout contract. Hutchins is expected to be in the line-up when the Sound Tigers host the Providence Bruins tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Hutchins, 26, is a third-year professional who comes to the Sound Tigers from the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves for whom he has posted 18 goals, 16 assists, 34 points, a team-leading +14 and 128 penalty minutes in 38 games this season. He also played in January's ECHL All-Star Classic in Reading, Pennsylvania coming in second in the hardest-shot competition with a 92.1 mile-per-hour blast and notching an assist in the game.

Hutchins has played for three other AHL teams; the Rochester Americans, Grand Rapids Griffins and Houston Aeros; the past two seasons. He had a goal apiece for Rochester, in three games, and Grand Rapids, in 12 games, this season. He also had 45 penalty minutes for the Griffins this year and played 22 games for the Americans last season.

Prior to signing with Mississippi in September of 2002, Hutchins played four years, 1998-2002, with Union College of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
