Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH â Center Michael Cammalleri had three points (1-2=3) and rookie center Matt Ryan collected the game-winner with 11:03 remaining as the Manchester Monarchs snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1-0) by beating the Springfield Falcons, 4-3, before 8,602 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday night. The win was the 21st of the season for the Monarchs (21-3-1-0, 43 points), who stayed six points in front of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League's Atlantic Division.
The Monarchs spotted the Falcons a two-goal lead, and then fought back for the win. Along with Cammalleri and Ryan, right wing Tom Kostopoulos and center Yanick Lehoux had goals for the Monarchs, who won for the 11th time in 12 home games this season (11-0-1-0).
Falcons center Jason Jaspers opened the scoring with his second goal of the season, scored after a Monarchs turnover deep in their own end. Jaspers registered the unassisted goal at 2:17 of the opening period. Defenseman Nikos Tselios next made it a 2-0 Falcons lead with his second goal of the season, scored on a wrist shot from the left point at 9:12 of the period.
Kostopoulos pulled the Monarchs to within one with his 12th goal. His shot dribbled through the legs of goaltender Jamie Storr (25 shots, 21 saves) at 12:21. Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov and Cammalleri each had assists on the play.
Falcons right wing Shane Willis pounced on another Monarchs turnover later in the period and roofed a shot over goaltender Mathieu Garon (33 shots, 30 saves) for his 11th goal of the season at 16:32, but Cammalleri cut into the two-goal deficit less than three minutes later with his league-leading 22nd goal, stuffed home from the crease at 19:15 of the period. Forwards Dustin Brown and Jeff Giuliano each collected assists on the play.
The Monarchs tied the game at 3-3 with the 16th goal of the season for Lehoux. The third-year pro finished a skillful rush up the ice when he deposited Brown's slot pass by Storr at 8:55 of the middle frame.
Ryan had the only third period goal, scored on a rebound at 8:57. Right wing Dan Welch and left wing Petr Kanko shared assists on the sixth goal of the season, and third game winner for Ryan.
The Monarchs return to action when they open a four-game road trip against the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope on Wednesday, December 15 at 12:15 p.m. Catch all of the play-by-play action of Monarchs Hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network (WGIR-AM 610, Manchester; WGIN-AM 930, Rochester; WGIP-AM 1540, Exeter; WTSL-AM 1400, Lebanon) and at www.monarchshockey.com.
