
Monarchs Extinguished By Devils In Shootout Loss

Manchester, NH - The Manchester Monarchs earned a point in the 4-3 shootout loss to the Lowell Devils in front of 3,505 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night.
Manchester (2-4-0-1) is tied for sixth place in the Atlantic Division with five points. Lowell (4-2-0-1) is tied for third place in the Atlantic Division with nine points.
Right wing Patrick Davis added to left wing Brad Snetsinger and left wing Chad Wiseman's shootout tallies for the Devils win. Right wing Teddy Purcell and center Michel Leveille scored for the Monarchs in the shootout.
The Monarchs struck first at 4:39 of the first period with right wing David Meckler's second goal of the season. Right wing Trevor Lewis side-stepped Devils defenseman Matthew Spiller at the bottom of the right face-off circle and fed a pass to Meckler in the slot. Meckler one-timed the puck into the top of the net past goaltender Scott Clemmensen. Center Michele Leveille assisted on the first goal of the game.
Meckler tossed the puck under the crossbar and past Clemmensen for the second goal of the night and his third tally of the season at 5:37 of the second period. Skating shorthanded with defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov in the penalty box for holding, Lewis and Meckler skated into the Devils zone on a 2-on-1 breakaway. Lewis fed the puck to Meckler for the one-timer. Defenseman David Drewiske assisted on the shorthanded tally.
Devils cut the Monarchs lead in half at 12:30 of the second period with left wing Ryan Murphy's second tally of the season. Defenseman Tyler Eckford's shot deflected off of Voynov to Murphy at the bottom of the right face-off circle. Murphy snapped a wrist shot past Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier to bring the game to 2-1. Center Rod Pelley picked up an assist on the Devils first goal.
The Devils tied the game with center Michael Swift's power play tally at 13:27 of the second period. Right wing Patrick Davis cycled the puck to Wiseman who found Swift in the right face-off circle. Swift walked in on Bernier and wristed a shot high on his glove side to even the game at 2-2.
The Monarchs regained the lead at 5:07 of the final stanza with right wing Jon Rheault's first goal of the season. Left wing Scott Parse fed the puck to left wing Vladimir Dravecky who shot the puck on Clemmensen at point-blank range. Referee Terry Koharski waved off the goal signifying Dravecky's shot did not cross the goal line. The native of New Hampshire, Rheault jammed in the rebound for his first professional goal.
Devils evened the game up at 3-3 at 8:41 of the final period with Snetsinger's first goal of the season. Eckford carried the puck down the left wing boards and once he reached the goal line, he fed the puck to Snetsinger in the bottom of the right face-off circle for the one-timer.
Bernier (1-1-1) took the shootout loss with 23 saves of 26 shots. Clemmensen (4-2-1) earned his fourth victory of the season stopping 35-of-38 shots.
Manchester went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Lowell was 1-for-3 on the power play.
