Manchester Monarchs News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't hold a third period lead, and fell to the Elmira Jackals in overtime, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at First Arena.

The Monarchs (11-6-1-1) have now dropped the first two of 14 games with the Jackals (4-10-2-0).

The Monarchs drew first blood when Derek Arnold scored his 4th goal of the season at 4:03 of the opening period. After heavy pressure in the offensive zone, Arnold found the rebound off a deflected shot by Cory Ward to the left of the cage, and beat Jackals goaltender, Jason Kasdorf, for the early 1-0 Monarchs lead.

Elmira tied the score when Sebastien Sylvestre scored his 4th goal of the season at 18:21 of the third period while on the power play. Sylvestre sent a wrister through traffic from the blue line that beat Monarchs goaltender, Sam Brittain, who had no chance at making the save through the screen.

The Jackals ended the game in overtime when Justin Kea scored his 1st goal of the season at 3:02 of the extra frame. Kea took a pass in the low slot while crashing the net and buried the puck through the 5-hole of Brittain to end the game.

The Monarchs are back in action Tuesday night (7 p.m.), when they finish their three-game road trip with North Division showdown with the Adirondack Thunder.
