Monarchs Drop Record Setting Fifth Consecutive Game

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs dropped their fifth consecutive game, a 2-1 loss at the hands of their former goaltender Danny Taylor as the Springfield Falcons earned their first win at the Verizon Wireless Arena in six games on Wednesday night.

Manchester (3-6-0-0) sits in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with six points. The Falcons (4-5-0-0) are in third place in the Northeast Division with eight points.

"It was a sloppy game," said Monarch Head Coach Mark Morris. "We had defensive breakdowns and got caught puck watching. That proved to be the difference in the game. We had a flurry of chances in the third period, but again the penalties hurt us down the stretch. We will use it to teach. Our inexperience is showing right now."

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead when center Martin St. Pierre found a lose puck on the right door step at the 48-second mark of the middle stanza. Defenseman Cody Goloubef found left wing Wade MacLeod on the left door step. MacLeod's shot ricochet off of Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones to St. Pierre on the right side of the net. St. Pierre roofed the puck into the open net for his fourth goal of the season.

Left wing Raymond Macias opened the scoring for the Falcons at 16:23 in the first period. Falcons left wing Nick Drazenovic skated behind the Monarchs net and found Macias between the hash marks for the four-on-four tally. Defenseman Brent Regner also registered an assist on the left winger's first career goal as a Falcon.

Trailing 2-0, the Monarchs cut the deficit in half as right wing Jordan Nolan wristed a shot past Taylor. Nolan took the puck off a turnover at center ice and broke toward the left post creating a two-on-one with Monarchs left wing Dwight King breaking down the right wing. Nolan deked to King before snapping a wrist shot under Taylor's right arm at 7:00 of the second period.

Jones (3-4-0-0) took his fourth loss this season while stopping 21-of-23 shots. Taylor (2-1-0-0) earned his second victory of the season making 32 saves on 33 shots.

Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Falcons went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

Notables: Monarchs dropped their franchise record fifth consecutive loss...Both of Falcons goaltender Danny Taylor's victories have come against the Monarchs...Monarchs right wing Jordan Nolan has recorded a goal and two assists in three games against the Falcons...The Monarchs own a 38-5-3-0 record all-time against the Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
