Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Sauget, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies cruised to a 7-0 victory on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark as right-hander Vince Molesky put together a stellar outing for his second complete game shutout of the season. Molesky shut down the Southern Illinois Miners while allowing just four hits all evening.

The Grizzlies (43-48) snapped a five-game skid behind Molesky's effort. He struck out six batters and allowed just a single runner to reach second base. It was the third complete game effort of his career. Molesky (5-8) currently leads the Frontier League with 110 strikeouts in 2016.

Offensively, the Grizzlies went scoreless against Miners RHP Kyle Tinius through his three innings on the mound. RHP Jarett Miller came on for Tinius in the fourth and tossed two scoreless frames to begin his outing.

In the sixth, Gateway's offense erupted to break the scoreless tie. Josh Bunselmeyer smacked a two-run homer to right field as the Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead. Ben Waldrip laced a two-run double down the left field line to make it 4-0.

Miller (8-4) once again ran into trouble in the eighth. With two outs and two runners on-base, Waldrip popped a three-run shot over the short porch in right field to extend Gateway's lead to 7-0.

Meanwhile, the Miners (60-32) were unable to figure out the Pennsylvania native. Molesky ultimately threw 105 pitches and did not walk a single batter.

Four different Gateway hitters collected two hits a piece.

The Grizzlies and Miners play the rubber game of their series on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Gateway sends LHP Jon Jones (4-3, 4.40 ERA) to the mound against Southern Illinois LHP Rick Teasley (7-5, 4.94 ERA).

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Thursday on 1400 AM KJFF and online at www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt has the play-by-play call.
