Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox got a two run, nine inning performance by starter Ryan Mitchell but couldn't score enough to support him as the Sox lost to the El Paso Diablos 3-2 on Tuesday night in front of 1,946 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Sox reliever Chad Povich (5-3) got the loss, allowing a tenth inning run to El Paso. Diablos reliever Kyle Cremers (2-0) got the win, pitching the final inning and two-thirds and allowed no runs.

The Diablos got on the board first in the first as Maikol Gonzalez singled to lead off, stole second and third and scored on a Javier Brito RBI single for a 1-0 El Paso lead.

Amarillo tied the game in the fifth as Kevin Butler singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jason White RBI triple for a 1-1 tie game.

El Paso retook the lead in the sixth as Albenis Machado led off with a walk. Following a Brito single to send Machado to second, he would score on a Uriak Marquez ball that was mishandled by Lee Cruz and allowed Machado to score for a 2-1 Diablos advantage.

In the eighth, the Sox came back as Cruz and Tim Alberts both singled with one out, while Van Pope hit an RBI single to score Cruz from second to tie the game.

The Sox had an opportunity with the bases loaded in the ninth with only one out, but couldn't score to send the game to extra innings.

In the tenth, the Diablos retook the lead as Johan Garcia walked, stole second and scored on a Machado RBI single for a one-run lead. The Sox put two runners on with no outs in the tenth, but couldn't score to fall by the 3-2 score.

With the win, the Sox improve to 29-43 while the Diablos fall to 27-54.
