Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

SHREVEPORT, La.---The Captains knocked out 15 hits, eight for extra bases, Tuesday night at Fair Grounds Field as they routed the Ft. Worth Cats 11-4 in the first game of a three-game set. Starter Josh Strawn (W, 2-1) went seven innings and allowed just one earned run, while the offense was ignited by three-hit nights for Robert Perry and Chad Gabriel.

The 11 run total marked the first time since May 31 Shreveport-Bossier had plated double-digit runs at home this season. Gabriel, the newly-acquired leftfielder, went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored. Perry was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. Bryan Sabatella added three RBIs while Palmer Karr Jr. and Mike Provencher each homered off Ft. Worth starter Tyler Seaman (L, 1-5).

Karr's solo home run to lead off the second got the Captains on board. It was his team-leading 10th home run of the year and his eighth at Fair Grounds Field. Sabatella's two-run single in the third made it 3-0 Shreveport-Bossier.

Leading 3-1 in the fourth, the Captains broke things open with six runs. A Jonathan Johnson triple scored Scott Thomas to get things going. Provencher would come to the plate next and blast his seventh homer of the year over the left field wall. Perry doubled and scored on a Sabatella base hit. With two outs, Gabriel hit an RBI triple and Andres Rodriguez knocked him in with a single to make it 9-1.

The Cats would score two unearned runs in the fifth. Cory Morales came home on shortstop Johnson's throwing error. Later in the frame, Marcos Rodriguez's double would score Will Calhoun to make it 9-3.

But the Captains would extend the lead in the seventh with two more runs on a Scott Thomas two-run double. Thomas was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. He is now 4-for-6 on the Captains current home stand with four runs.

Ft. Worth got a run in the eighth off reliever Mark Haynes on a John Allen single, but that was all the Cats could muster. Lee Henry pitched a scoreless ninth to give Shreveport-Bossier their second win of the homestand. With the victory, the Captains improve to 37-43 and 23-17 at Fair Grounds Field. Shreveport-Bossier has taken seven of the first 11 meetings with Ft. Worth with nine games still remaining between the two clubs.

The Captains and Cats go back at it on Wednesday, August 10 on Willis-Knighton Wednesday, where kids can eat for free with paid admission. Right hander Alex Kaminsky (4-2, 6.66) will be making his Captains debut against Cats righty Wade Mackey (5-4, 4.62). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:05.
