San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions have increased their league-best record to 36-17 with a 6-5 win over the Arkansas Travelers Friday night at Nelson Wolff Stadium.
James Darnell got the night off to a good start when he hit a three run home run to put the Missions up 3 - 1. Darnell now has 11 home runs on the season and is in second in the league for hitting. In the top of the seventh, things got tense. Missions reliever Craig Italiano came into the game to pitch and quickly found himself in a jam. Darwin Perez bunted safely to first and was soon advanced to second on a single from Ryan Mount. A bad throw from Missions catcher Eddy Rodriguez put Darwin on third and was soon plated on a hard single from Roberto Perez to put Arkansas on top 4 -3.
In the top of the eighth it was all Travelers again as Dillon Baird hit a hard single which was followed by Alberto Rosario who scored Baird on another single. One more run added by a Jon Townsend put the last and final run on the board for Arkansas with 5 - 3 lead over the Missions.
With one last chance in the bottom of the ninth, San Antonio did what it does best, a coming back. Daniel Robertson singled to left and was advanced to second with Kyle Blanks taking first on a walk. Darnell who hit his league-best 19th double, advanced Robertson home. An intentional walk to Beamer Weems brought up Sawyer Carroll who ended walking to load the bases. With one last chance to close out the inning, Eddy Rodriguez took position at the dish and with a full count was walked to bring in pinch-runner Bryan Altman.
The San Antonio Missions face a three game series against the Springfield Cardinals, first game is tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
