Missions pull away from Express
July 24, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
Down 4-3 in the fifth inning, the Round Rock Express were in position to make up ground in the game and in the standings against the first place San Antonio Missions.
However, the bottom of the fifth changed all of that.
The Missions scored five runs in the fifth to eliminate any potential comeback and down the Express, 9-3.
4,637 at Wolff Municipal Stadium saw A.J. Zapp hit a bases loaded double to stake San Antonio to a 4-0 lead. However, a home run by Mike Coolbaugh in the fourth and RBIs by Gavin Wright and Chris Burke in the fifth closed the gap to one.
Then the bottom of the inning came, though. Mike Curry and Rob Gandolfo drove in a pair of runs each in the inning to grab the final 9-3 lead.
Bobby Madritsch (9-5) got the win after giving up three runs in five innings. Cheyenne Janke was the loser after allowing four runs in four innings.
The series finale will be Friday at 7:05 p.m.
