Missions Plate 12 Runs on 15 Hits in Tuesday Night Victory

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions began a six-game series with the Midland RockHounds on Tuesday night. The offense came to play on Tuesday as the Missions scored 12 runs on 15 hits and left the yard twice. The Missions plated seven runs during the third inning on seven hits. Cole Cummings finished the night a triple shy of the cycle. San Antonio defeats Midland 12-2 in the series opener.

Royber Salinas was the starting pitcher for the RockHounds. After two scoreless frames, the right-hander allowed seven runs in the top of the third inning. On the first pitch of the inning, Cole Cummings homered to center field. With runners on the corners, Ripken Reyes and Jakob Marsee executed a double steal resulting in Reyes stealing home. Graham Pauley drove in Marsee with a base hit to left field. Nathan Martorella drove in Jackson Merrill on a ground out. With the bases loaded and two outs, Salinas was replaced by Jorge Juan. Cummings drove in two runs with a double to left field. Lastly, Korry Howell drove in a run after drawing a bases-loaded walk. The Missions took a commanding 7-0 lead.

San Antonio added two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Pauley drew a one-out walk in front of Martorella. The left-handed slugger homered to right field. His second Double-A blast made it a 9-0 lead for the Missions.

Gabe Mosser was the starting pitcher for the Missions. The right-hander kept Midland off the scoreboard while securing his first win of the season. He allowed five hits while walking one batter and struck out seven batters. Jason Blanchard took the mound in the sixth and tossed a scoreless frame.

The Missions made it a 12-0 ballgame in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Grant Holman, Pauley singled to start the frame. Martorella and Marcos Castanon each grounded out and Pauley was forced out at third base. With Castanon on first and two outs, Michael De La Cruz singled to extend the inning. Cummings drove in his fourth run of the game with a base hit to right field. Reyes drove in two runs with a single to right field.

Midland plated both of their runs during the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing Seth Mayberry, William Simoneit doubled to start the frame. Sahid Valenzuela reached base on an infield single. After striking out the next batter, Mayberry allowed an RBI single to Max Muncy. Shane McGuire drove in Valenzuela with a base hit to right field. Midland trailed 12-2.

Justin Lopez finished the game for the Missions with two no-hit innings. The right-hander allowed one base runner via hit by pitch while striking out one batter.
