San Antonio Missions News Release

The Missions came up on the short end of a nail-biter Thursday night at Wolff Stadium, falling to the RoughRiders 3-2 in game three of their four-game series.

It did not take San Antonio long to plate the game's first run. Reymond Fuentes led off the first with an infield single, extending his on-base streak to 28 games, the second longest streak in the Texas League this season behind Corpus Christi's Rene Garcia (30). After Jeudy Valdez struck out for the first out, Johan Limonta moved Fuentes to second with a base knock to center. Kalian Sams, who entered the game mired in a 4-for-37 slump, gave the Missions a 1-0 lead when he followed with an RBI double to right.

For a while it appeared the one run would be enough with San Antonio starter Jose De Paula breezing through his first five innings. However, the left-hander struggled with his control in the sixth, walking the first two batters. De Paula entered the game with the lowest BB-IBB/9 IP ratio in the TL at 0.89 (6 BB in 61 IP). The RoughRiders made De Paula pay for the free passes, scoring twice in the frame on an Alex Buchholz sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.

Sams drew the Missions even one pitch into the bottom of the sixth when he blasted his team-leading 10th homer of the season onto the berm in left field.

Frisco took the lead back for good in the seventh with a two-out, RBI single to right by Guilder Rodriguez off San Antonio reliever Jeremy McBryde (1-2).

The Missions had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth against 'Riders reliever Ben Rowen, putting runners on the corners with two outs. Unfortunately for the Wolff crowd of 4,386, the Missions could not push home the tying run as Rowen (7th save) induced Fuentes to hit into a game-ending ground out.

Kevin Pucetas (7-4) got the win for the 'Riders after allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

San Antonio (31-27) and Frisco (34-25) wrap up their four-game series Friday on Missions Home Replica Jersey Night at Wolff Stadium. The first 1,500 fans will received an Adrian Beltre Missions home replica jersey courtesy of McCombs Ford West. First pitch will be 7:05 PM with Missions' right-hander Matt Andriese (6-1, 2.21) squaring off against Nick McBride (0-1, 15.00).
