Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA- The Lake Elsinore Storm took game-one of three-game set against Inland Empire at The Diamond 5-4 in ten innings on Monday and in the process snapped its five-game losing skid. The loss pushed Inland Empire's losing streak to four games, one shy of a season-worst.
The 66ers jumped out in front 2-0 against Storm starter Zech Lemond in the first inning when Kody Eaves served a two-RBI single to right field scoring Eric Aguilera and Andrew Daniel. The Storm (39-61, 8-22) eventually tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth against 66ers starter Ryan Etsell. The Sixers however got a sac-fly from Angel Rosa in the fifth and a RBI double from Aguilera in the sixth to lead 4-2. Neither Lemond (5.0IP, 8H, 3ER, 2BB, 5K) nor Etsell (5.2IP, 8H, 3ER, 2BB, 4K) figured in the decision.
Lake Elsinore's comeback was led by 1B Marcus Davis. The Florida State University product doubled in the sixth and scored on Gabriel Quintana's RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-3. Davis delivered a RBI double off IE reliever Alan Busenitz in the seventh that scored Nick Torres to tie the game at 4-4. For Davis it was his third double of the game and his third hit of a four-hit game. He is now batting .476 against Inland Empire in 14 games with seven doubles and 13 RBI.
Neither team had much trouble getting hits in the game as the clubs combined for 27 of them. The challenge was the big hits, as Inland Empire (47-51, 12-16) was just 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position and Lake Elsinore was only 2-for-12.
Jason Jester (2-0) tossed a perfect top of the tenth inning for Lake Elsinore. In the bottom of the frame, 66ers reliever Brian Loconsole (5-2) allowed a leadoff single to Miguel Del Castillo. He then walked Donavan Tate. A sac bunt moved the runners along. Loconsole intentionally walked Auston Bousfield to load the bases. Nick Torres then lifted a fly ball to left deep enough to score Del Castillo with the winning run.
Bousfield had three hits for the Storm while Torres chipped in two. Aguilera had three hits for the Sixers and is now batting .326. Caleb Adams had a three-hit game for IE as well.
The series continues on Tuesday at 6:00pm. It can be heard live at 66ers.com.
