Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks saw a five-run lead in the third inning dwindle to a one-run lead in the seventh, but were able to stave off the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a 6-5 win on Monday night at The Hangar.
J.D. Davis drove in five of the JetHawks' six runs, including his 14th home run of the season in the third inning. Sean McMullen added a solo homer in the second in his first Cal League at-bat.
The early run support backed starter Akeem Bostick (2-3), who recorded the win despite allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings of work.
The JetHawks (52-48) took an early lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Davis. In the second, McMullen homered to right-center field to extend Lancaster's lead to three runs.
Rancho Cucamonga (55-44) got a RBI-single from Delvis Morales in the top of the third, but Davis hit a three-run homer off Brock Stewart in the bottom half to extend the JetHawks lead to five runs. Stewart (2-3) lasted just three innings for the Quakes, yielding all six Lancaster runs on eight hits.
In the fourth, Rancho Cucamonga rallied for three runs. Joey Curletta and Dillon Moyer hit RBI-singles, and Tim Locastro brought the Quakes within two runs on a sacrifice fly to left field. The Quakes scored their final run in the seventh off tandem starter Troy Scribner on a Jacob Scavuzzo RBI-double that cut the JetHawks' lead to one run. Scribner struggled through two innings, walking four while striking out just one.
Tyler Brunnemann pitched a perfect eighth inning for Lancaster before running into trouble in the ninth. A Cody Bellinger single and Scavuzzo walk put the tying and go-ahead runs on base, but a fielder's choice grounder ended the game and gave the JetHawks the victory.
Joe Broussard pitched four innings of scoreless relief for Rancho Cucamonga, striking out eight.
The series continues on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Bryan Radziewski (3-3, 3.00) will start for the JetHawks, and Jeff Brigham (4-5, 5.76) will pitch for the Quakes. The JetHawks will host Two-For-Tuesday, as fans can receive 2-for-1 grandstand tickets by presenting an empty 20-oz Coca-Cola product at the box office.
