St. Lucie Mets News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 6, 2015) - The Fort Myer Miracle completed a three-game sweep by blowing out the St. Lucie Mets 9-0 on Monday at Hammond Stadium.

Miracle starter Stephen Gonsalves limited the Mets to three hits over seven shutout innings. He walked two and struck out seven.

Reliever Matt Summers pitched a perfect eighth and ninth.

Jairo Perez had two of the Mets hits - a single and a double. Victor Cruzado hit a double to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

The Miracle tagged Mets starter Miller Diaz for 10 hits and five runs, four earned, in seven innings.

The game was close early. The Miracle led 2-0 in the fifth and Diaz was able to get the first two outs quickly. Then Alex Swim hit a liner that went off the glove of Phillip Evans at second base for what could have been the third out. Instead Mitch Garver followed with another single and Marcus Knecht hit a three-run homer to put the Miracle up 5-0.

The Miracle plated their final four runs in the eighth against David Roseboom. With the bases loaded, Engelb Vielma singled to plate a run. Alex Swim was walked to force in another. Garver finally knocked Roseboom out of the game with another RBI single to make it 9-0. Only one of the four runs was earned after an error on Dominic Smith at first earlier in the frame.

Vielma led the way for the Miracle by going 4 for 5 with a run and two RBIs. Three of his hits were infield singles.

The top five hitters in the Fort Myers order recorded multi hit games. The Miracle out hit the Mets 15-3.

The Mets (40-42, 5-7) return to Tradition Field on Tuesday to begin a three-game series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game can be heard on www.stluciemets.com.
