Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA - The Tampa Yankees (6-5, 40-41) rallied for four late runs for a 7-6 comeback win to complete a three-game sweep of the Daytona Tortugas (5-6, 42-39) on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

All nine Yankee batters came to the plate in the second as Tampa took an early lead against LHP Nick Routt. With runners on the corners and one out, Michael O'Neill laid down an RBI bunt single to score the first run of the game. Angelo Gumbs drove the first pitch he saw into center for an RBI hit. A blooper to shallow right by Abiatal Avelino loaded the bases and Dustin Fowler scored O'Neill with a high chopper to second.

RHP Rookie Davis pitched three scoreless frames before falling apart in the fourth for Tampa. The Tortugas sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs on four hits. After loading the bases, Jeff Gelalich and Carlton Daal hit back-to-back RBI singles. Bueno then lined a hit to left, scoring two more. Bueno advanced to second on a throw home and to third as the throw caromed towards the third base on-deck circle. Phillip Ervin followed with a sacrifice fly, giving Daytona a 6-3 lead.

Eric Wooten entered for Tampa to get the final out of the fourth. The southpaw restored order and continued to pitch three and a third scoreless, working around a hit and a walk while striking out three.

The T-Yanks cut into the deficit in the seventh. With one out, Dante Bichette Jr. lined a double to the left field wall off RHP Joe Mantoni. After a strikeout by Ericson Leonora, the 'Tugas brought in Evan Mitchell. Consecutive walks by Kyle Higashioka and Jake Skole loaded the bases and Bichette scored as O'Neill reached on an error at shortstop by Daal.

LHP Nolan Becker (3-2) entered in relief for Daytona in the eighth, with the Tortugas leading, 6-4. Avelino walked and Fowler singled to begin the frame. After stealing third base, Avelino scored on a single to right by Mike Ford. RHP Carlos Gonzalez relieved Becker and walked Bichette and Leonora, forcing in the tying run. Later, pinch runner Tyler Wade scored the go-ahead run as Skole grounded into a fielder's choice to second.

Chris Smith (2-1) earned the win in relief for Tampa. The right-hander retired all six batters he faced, striking out the side in the eighth and adding one more strikeout in the ninth.

The Yankees tallied 13 hits and have combined for 23 in the last two games. Fowler (3-for-5, R) drove in his eighth RBI and picked up his sixth stolen base.
