Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Sudbury Wolves have called-up a young prospect to help the team through the injury epidemic that the Wolves are currently experiencing. 16-year-old rearguard CODY MINTZ will join the Wolves tonight when they host the Saginaw Spirit at 7:30. Mintz, 5'9", 175 lb, was the first defenceman drafted by the Wolves in the 2010 OHL Entry Draft. Mintz was selected in the 4th round of the 2010 OHL Entry draft, 71st overall. The Clarington, Ontario native is enjoying an outstanding season with the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Junior 'A' Hockey League.

"Cody is developing into a Ryan Ellis-type defenceman" notes Wolves' GM Blaine Smith. "He is similar in stature and has a similar skill set - he skates well, passes well, reads the ice well and has a hard accurate shot." Mintz has recorded 8 goals, 18 assists for 26 points in 34 games playing against older players in the OJHL. Seven of his eight goals have been scored on the power play and three have been game winners. "(Cobourg Cougars head coach) Wayne Marchment has done a great job of bringing Cody along this season" adds Smith. Last season, Mintz scored 6 goals and added 33 assists for 39 points in 50 games for Clarington Minor Midgets. He also amassed 134 penalty minutes.

"He may be small in stature but he plays with a big heart" notes Wolves' Coach Trent Cull. "Cody is an intelligent player and we are looking forward to him developing into a key player for us in time. You can never have too many defencemen that move pucks and shoot the puck as hard as Cody does."

Despite interest from NCAA Division 1 schools, Mintz made it clear that the OHL has always been his first choice. "My dream has always been to play in the OHL and Sudbury was my first choice" notes Mintz. "Sudbury has a great rink and terrific fans and I can hardly wait to wear a Wolves' jersey." The Wolves have 20 games remaining in their schedule and Mintz is allowed to play a maximum of 10 games as an affiliate player.
