February 4, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release

He's widely regarded as one of the best ever to play major junior hockey in Canada.

And his outstanding performance last month only helped cement his legacy, as Ryan Ellis was named OHL Defenceman of the Month as well as the Precision Jewellers and Windsor Spitfires Player of the Month for January.

Ellis led the team - and all OHL blueliners - in scoring with four goals and 16 assists in just 10 games, as the Spitfires posted a 6-2-2-1 record.

After returning from the World Junior Hockey Championships, Ellis recorded points in nine of the 10 games he played last month, and tied for tops in the league with a +12 rating.

The captain had a career-best, six point effort in Kitchener back on January 28th, with a goal and five assists, and was named first star in a 7-1 win over the Rangers.

Ellis is currently: second in scoring among OHL defencemen, with 16 goals and 44 assists in just 38 games - an average of 1.6 points per game; 18th overall in league scoring and the top point-getter on the Spitfires.

If he continues, Ellis would become the first defenceman in the OHL to lead his team in scoring since Drew Doughty turned the trick for the 2006-2007 Guelph Storm, with 74 points.

Congratulations, Ryan, on an outstanding month!

Prior to a Spitfires home game in February, Ellis will receive a gift from Dan Thomas of Precision Jewellers, in recognition of his excellent play.
