February 4, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Sarnia, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors were in Sarnia this evening for their second match up this week against the Sting. In last Sunday's game, the Majors were all over Sarnia, outshooting them 59-29 in a 7-1 victory. While the score was a little closer this time around, the Majors were all over the Sting once again, outshooting them 44-22 this time around, and defeating the Sting 6-3.

The Majors jumped out to an early lead with four goals in the first period. Sarnia may have felt a bit of déjà vu as the Majors led by an identical 4-0 score after the first period last Sunday as well. After scoring in the shootout last night in Windsor, Marc Cantin got things started for the Majors tonight when he scored his seventh of the season on the powerplay at 4:04. Casey Cizikas had the assist on the game's opening goal. Then, at 10:45, it was Justin Shugg, who had the other Mississauga shootout goal in last night's game with 27th of the season to make it 2-0. Riley Brace assisted on the Shugg goal. The third Majors goal of the period came from an unlikely source as Brett Flemming scored his third goal of the season, with a backhanded shot, to make it 3-0 just over 12 minutes into the game. Maxim Kitsyn and Corey Bureau had the assists. At 18:10, Sarnia forward Dean Pawlaczyk took a slashing penalty that would lead to another goal for Mississauga. Michael D?Orazio became the third Majors defenseman to score in the opening period when he fired a slap shot from the top of the circle to make it 4-0 Mississauga. Defence partner Cantin got the assist on the goal at 19:03. It was Cantin's second point of the game. Mississauga doubled up Sarnia on the shot clock in the first period, outshooting the Sting, 16-8.

The onslaught did not continue in the second period. Although the Majors continued to put pressure on the Sting throughout the period they could not find the back of the net. It took another powerplay opportunity for the Majors to extend their lead. At 17:46, Craig Hottot took a holding penalty and Rob Flick capitalized for the Majors. Just over a minute into the man advantage, Flick netted a rebound to make it 5-0 Majors. The goal came with just over a minute remaining in the second period and was assisted by Chris DeSousa and Kitsyn. The point was Kitsyn's second of the night. Less than a minute later, JC Campagna ensured that the Sting would not go into the intermission without a goal. Campagna went top shelf on JP Anderson with just 0:24 left in the period to make it 5-1. Nail Yakupov and Ryan Zupancic had the assists. The Majors continued to dominate in shots on goal, outshooting the Sting 17-9 in the second period.

After five periods of hockey in the last week between the two teams without a fight, tensions finally boiled over in the third. Just 0:48 into the period, Riley Brace and Nathan Chiarlitti dropped the mitts and were sent off with a five minute fighting major each for their efforts. A few minutes later, Flick scored his second of the night to put the Majors up 6-1. Kitsyn and Shugg had the assists. It was Kitsyn?s third assist of the game while it was Shugg?s second point, after his first period goal. Sarnia did make a charge late in the game. It started with Yakupov?s 38th goal of the season at 15:58 to make it 6-2. Campagna and Flemington had the assists. Less than three minutes later, Campagna gave the hometown fans something to cheer about with his second goal of the night, and third point of the game to make it 6-3. Yakupov had an assist on the goal to give himself a three point night as well. Alex Galchenyuk had the other assist. Campagna's goal brought the Sting as close as they would get as the Majors will enjoy their bus ride home with a 6-3 victory. Shots on goal in the third period were 12-6 in favour of the Majors.

Brandon Hope got the start in net for Sarnia and made 39 saves on 45 shots in the loss. JP Anderson got his second start in as many nights for the double blue and made 20 saves for the victory. The games three stars were Campagna (3rd), Kitsyn (2nd) and Flick (1st).
