Minnesota Wild Recalls Tyson Strachan from Iowa

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Tyson Strachan (pronounced STRACK-in) from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Strachan, 31 (10/30/84), has recorded two assists and ranks second on Iowa with 34 penalty minutes (PIM) in 31 games this season. He was recalled by Minnesota on Dec. 9 but did not appear in a game before being reassigned to Iowa on Dec. 17. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Melfort, Sask., tallied five assists and 44 PIM in 46 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season and set career highs in games played, points, assists, PIM, blocked shots (105) and TOI/game (18:59). He owns 20 points (1-19=20) and 199 PIM in 184 career NHL contests in parts of seven seasons (2008-15) with St. Louis, Florida, Washington and Buffalo. Strachan played four seasons at Ohio State University (2003-07) and was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed as a free agent by the Wild on July 2 and wears sweater No. 28 with Minnesota.

Minnesota plays the second contest of its four-game road trip tomorrow, visiting the Tampa Bay Lightning at 6 p.m. CT on FOX Sports North PLUS and KFAN 100.3 FM.
